I've reviewed each of these products individually, but here's Urban Decay's best options for helping your makeup last in one package. It helps that you can usually get this for only a few dollars more than it costs to get just the All Nighter travel size spray, and you get a full size primer as a bonus!
I use the All Nighter finishing spray every day. Can I say that it's the difference between my makeup staying put and it sliding around? No, I can't say it's just because of this product, but I can say that I use it along with my other standard products and for the first time in forever, I don't have foundation & powder all over my hands, keyboard, phone, etc.
I'm not a fan of the primer though. It's ok when I'm just putting on a light powder on the weekend because I'm not planning on going out in public for any length of time. I've found that it's rather greasy and if I use it under my foundation, it will cause it to all slide off at the first sign of any humidity or heat.,
I love this stuff!!! It can really liven up whatever lipstick color you're wearing and the change it makes depends on the base color you're using. It lasts a long time too. I tend to use it over top of extremely long wearing lipcolors like COVERGIRL Outlast All-Day Lipcolor or Maybelline SuperStay 24® Liquid Lipstick (both of which really do last 24 hours) and I don't even have to put a coat of the clear sealer on most of the time. I have also used it with other non-long wearing liquid lip color like Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick and it definitely lengthens the staying power of those as well.
Just make sure that when you apply it, you only put a small amount on and then rub your lips together to spread it out - it is NOT a base lipcolor that needs to be put on slightly heavy in order to be seen. When I apply it, I run the brush over the inside of my lower lip, refresh it and run it on the inside of my upper lip, then press them together & make sure that I spread the top coat over all of my lips. This ensures that I'm not clumping too much in one area and that there's a light layer all over. When you put too much on, it tends to get sticky and not dry for a while, then once it does, it will flake off easier. It's not a stand-alone color but HAS to be applied over top of a base color for it to work. In the picture, I'm wearing Maybelline 24-hour Super Stay in either Ravishing Raspberry or Constantly Cabernet (I can't remember what it's called, but it was shockingly pink and brighter than I thought it would be) with the UD Vice Bruja topcoat.
I was pleasantly surprised by their lasting power as well. I've tried plenty of standard liquid lipsticks (including Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ) and they don't make it a hour before they're 90% disappeared. With these, I can usually get through most of the work day and still have 80-90% of the color on my lips. Mostly it disappears from the middle (eating & drinking) and around the outside edges.
I would give these 4.5 stars if I could, since they're great colors, don't flake off & doesn't feel weird while wearing it, but in my mind you shouldn't have to renew your lipstick after having a drink or two, so I really can't give it 5 stars.
This was my first introduction to using primer in order to keep my foundation on my face longer than an hour or two. It works very well... for what it is - a rather expensive drug store makeup primer. For someone on a budget that can afford to splurge a tiny bit (I think it runs somewhere between $11 & $13 at our Walmart), it's definitely a good option.
I have slightly oily/mostly sweaty skin. Slight humidity? Temps above 70 degrees? I've got a layer of sweat over my face.
When I started using it, I was ecstatic - My foundation was lasting until I got to work!! sometimes even until lunch!! Of course, years later I was introduced to the more expensive primers that you get a places like Sephora and discovered that it IS possible to have makeup last all day....
So, for $13, it's definitely a great option for someone with normal skin, and it's a good option for someone with troublesome skin like mine who can's or won't pay for the higher-end brands.
This was my go-to primer when I didn't have the means to shell out $30-40 for a truly good primer. It's good for what it is - a reasonably priced foundation primer. Does it work wonders? no Does it keep makeup applied & looking fresh for all day into the night? no What is it does is help with keeping your foundation in place and lasting longer than if you applied it directly to your skin. Does your makeup last for 8 hours? Not mine, but everyone's skin is slightly different. I have a very oily forehead and tend to generate sweat on my face when it's warm or humid around me - which means unless I have an amazingly good primer on, my foundation just slides right off. With the Stay Matte, my makeup lasted longer than usual, but not forever.
I wanted to love this so bad - I have used Smashbox products in the past and loved them, but with this, it just fell short. I have odd skin where my forehead gets really greasy, but I sweat a lot all over when it gets warm or humid. This means that unless the primer is really, really good, my foundation just slides right off onto everything - my fingers, my clothes, my phone...
I purchased a sample set that included this, the under eye primer and a few other things. For this one, it just didn't work at all from the start. Going on, it felt greasy on my skin. Once I got it spread around, when I would put the foundation on, it slid around a lot and I had a difficult time getting it set. Once it was all set and on and I walked out the door, I discovered that my makeup had absolutely no staying power. The first time I put my hand to my face, it came away covered in foundation. By lunch time, I had pretty much nothing left on my face.
All in all, I was extremely disappointed in the product.
I have very odd skin in that my forehead seems oily, but I sweat a lot at the least bit of heat or humidity. This means that I have had an impossible time finding a foundation that actually stays on my face and doesn't end up on my clothes, keyboard, fingers, phone, etc. I got this as a sample in a Sephora Play! box & had run out of my Becca primer, so I gave it a try. I have to say, it's really just OK. Maybe I'm spoiled by the Becca Ever-Matte, but this just feels greasy when it's applied and doesn't keep my foundation from sliding around & off my face.
I have found that it is good for the weekends when I only use a powder and under-eye serum instead of full-cover foundation. When it's used just with powder or a powder foundation, it definitely helps it last a while - but not all day, more like a couple of hours. Since I got a half-size free when I purchased some Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray , I have plenty to last me a long time and keep my usage of my Becca primer only to when I need full coverage for work or other events.
Love this primer! I have very odd skin in that my forehead seems oily, but I sweat a lot at the least bit of heat or humidity. This means that I have had an impossible time finding a foundation that actually stays on my face and doesn't end up on my clothes, keyboard, fingers, phone, etc. And I had tried a ton of different primers with a ton of different foundations - nothing worked. Then I went to Sephora and talked to one of the consultants. I had already done research on the foundation I was going to try, but wanted someone's opinion on trying it with a primer and which one to use. She suggested the Ever-Matte and it's worked great!
When you use it, you have to make sure to "activate" it by rubbing it between your fingers before putting it on your face. You'll know you've activated it when it starts to feel sticky and once you've put it on your face, you'll feel a "pull" as you drag your fingers across it. If you don't feel those things, it's not going to work very well. But if you apply it correctly, it makes your foundation stick a whole bunch better than anything else I've tried, and if you pair it with a truly lasting foundation, you're good from dawn to midnight! (I use Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation ) Every other primer that I've tried seems to feel super greasy when I put it on my face, which means it's not helping my foundation stick very well!
