I love to play around with new cosmetics, but I'm all about trying before buying something new. When I saw the Smashbox Try It Kit, I listened--and tried it.
The Try It Kit is a cute little cardboard box, slightly smaller than a paperback. The front of the box flips open and the 5 samples are tucked into cutouts in the box for a pretty appearance.
Photo Finish Foundation Primer: The primer is clear with a matte finish. It easily squeezes out of the tube. Sometimes my face has a little shine in the morning, but rub the Smashbox primer on and that shine is gone. It also keeps my makeup in place and keeps my face looking fresh all day.
Verdict: Tried it, loved it, going to add it to my shopping list
Photo Finish Lid Primer: Wear it alone? Why bother? It's the same color as my skin. ÿ\When I apply it to my lids, the change in appearance is so subtle that I have to look hard to see it.
Wearing it under makeup is a completely different story. I've been wearing an eye shadow that has a very soft texture. Normally my shadow brush glides over my eyelids to deposit color. But with the Photo Finish Lid Primer, my lids have a bit more “grip” on the brush. The color goes on well and stays put.
Verdict: I like it, but my morning routine is long enough. This is a special occasion step for me.
Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx: I don't usually wear black eye liner, but it was in the box so I gave it a try. The small pencil goes on easily. I was able to control it and create a reasonably thin swipe of black at my lash line and decided that, yes, I could wear black eyeliner during the day! It added a little extra drama, but not too much. A thicker line and I'd be ready for a night on the town!
As to the waterproof, smudge-proof claim--I'm sold! I have allergies and my eyes tend to water. When my eyes water, I rub them. When I rub them, my mascara, liner, and even eye shadow is at risk of being rubbed off. This liner looked as great at 6pm as it did at 7am when I put it on.
Verdict: Gotta have it!
Lip Enhancing Gloss in Illume: Illume is a nude color. It’s pretty pale on my lips, but has a lot of sparkles in it. When I rub my lips together, as I often do, I can feel the sparkles. On the plus side, it’s very shiny and smells a bit like cake batter.
The gloss is easy to apply and has a velour wand applicator. It’s kind of thick…like putting honey on your lips.
Verdict: It’s an okay gloss in an every day color.
Hyperlash Mascara in Blackout : My lashes are medium length, but light in color. I use black mascara to make them stand out. Based on the name “Hyperlash”, I expected to see some dramatic lashes, but what I got instead was--everyday. I was a little disappointed by this because I do like to pump up my lashes for a little drama, but this is a very nice mascara. It defined my lashes without clumping and I’d use it every day, but…
I occasionally, okay, frequently, sneak off to take a nap in the middle of the day. Normally, I can do this without getting caught, but the two times I napped while wearing Hyperlash, I woke up with black circles under my eyes! This didn’t happen with my previous mascara. If you aren’t a mid-day napper, then this probably won’t be an issue for you.
Verdict: Great every day mascara, but not if I plan on napping
Final Thoughts: If you like to play with makeup as much as I do, you’ll probably enjoy the Smashbox Try It Kit. I’ll be putting all of these items in my travel bag--they’re the perfect size. I like the gloss and mascara enough to use them up and the primers and liner I’ll be buying full-size.
I love this Liquid liner. It can get messy, like any liquid liner, the trick is to use a gel eyeliner underneath and apply the liquid on top to make it a really bold black. Some of my friends are makeup artists and that's how they keep the liquid eyeliner from smudging or running. I like how bold the color is and it's long lasting as well.
If you have the file, these things work great. Much better than pumice stones. Ped Egg works pretty well, but with Ped Egg it is MUCH easier to damage your skin and leave it tender, so I would recommend these. Never once have they left my skin red or sore from going too deep. Note they have both fine grain (which I don't use) and a coarser grain in the package.
I have had this particular fragrance from Hugo Boss for a while now and for a very good reason. First off it is not a strong fragrance in terms of being overpowering but strong in the sense that it only takes very little during application to produce a great smell on the wearer which results in people complimenting you that you smell very good. The key to any fragrance is finding those that work well with your body's natural chemistry, and once you have found it. It just compliments and blends right with you to create an overall great smell, so you do not have to apply much like you have taken a shower with the cologne to smell great.
This product seems to help my acne prone skin. My pores get clogged easily and even after I wash my face with Clarisonic, there's dirt that comes off when I use this toner. This toner has really helped getting the last bit of dirt out so my pores stay clean. I've tried other toners and they didn't work as well as this. Also, this is not too drying on my face.
I can't say enough good things about this serum--it's the ideal consistency and it just vanishes on my skin. Not great if you're looking for something to really moisturize, but if you want a quick lift and glow without waiting for it to sink in (which is exactly what a serum should be in my book) then this is your find. It spreads out beautifully on the skin once applied, so you only need a tiny bit. I'm in love!
I hadn't tried Eve Lom before, but I thought it was worth a shot, and I am so glad I tried!
This is a really light weight moisturizer, and it is perfect for the mornings before putting on makeup. Not greasy at all, I can barely tell it's there once it absorbs (which is fast!)
I will say that this won't cure dry skin issues - I have to go to the big guns for that - but I have found that when I use this in the morning, it helps protect my skin from the winter dryness that I usually have. When I use it in a routine with my night cream, I couldn't be happier!
I find that there are certain times when panty liners are a must-have. They are great for so many things while at the same time, protecting you and your panties from whatever may happen. I have found them to be great when it is almost that time of the month, but I am not sure of the exact hour. These come in handy as a great way to protect ones self when the lovely monthly comes knocking on the door. They are also great for the end when you don't need a lot of protection.
I have found the Carefree Acti-fresh liners extremely comfy and very efficient. They offer more absorbance than most pads, yet they are thinner, which I love. I realized quite fast that I felt as if I were wearing nothing at all. I have already bought myself another package for when I run out of my review sample. Yes, I have grown to like these very much.
