Word of the Day: BB Cream
noun | bee·bee creem
An acronym for blemish balm, blemish base, beblesh balm, and in international markets, beauty balm. It is a cosmetic item sold mainly in Asian markets, although the majority of larger beauty brands have introduced BB creams to Western markets.
This Asian export was a huge hit in the States when it was introduced to the mass beauty market back in 2011, mostly because it promised to be a kind of beauty cure-all. In theory, BB cream is meant to replace basically everything you would think to apply to your face -- serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock. If you’re looking for lightweight coverage, then the BB cream is perfect for you on its own -- otherwise, you might have better luck treating it as an upgrade for your primer underneath your usual foundation. Where the BB cream does shine is in the long term -- unlike your typical foundation and primer, you’ll likely see a difference in the quality of your complexion over time.
