We Tried It: Selfie Phone Cases
You’re in the middle of a buzzing, poorly lit rooftop party and a picture-perfect moment graces your presence. The issue? Red eyes, dim lighting, and blurry faces. Yikes. Your iPhone 6 can only do so much. Sometimes, even filters and front flash just do not cut it. But, what if you could take a selfie to Kim K’s level– no filter necessary?
Allow us to introduce you to the Ty-Lite and LuMee phone cases. In order to find out which case is really worth the splurge, my sister, Finley, and I put these two light-up phone cases to the test. Here's what we learned.
The scoop: Otterbox meets dressing room vanity mirror. Beyonce’s stylist, Ty Hunter, created the phone case with built-in LED lights that come in three settings: cool, warm and brilliant. “Cool” works best for outdoors, "warm” gives you a glossy effect, and “brilliant” works for that little extra glam.
Price: $79.95 on Ty-Lite.com
"My favorite part of the Ty-Lite case is the reflection that the light leaves in my eyes. It’s like this incredible twinkle in my eyes and makes all of my selfies look flawless."- Finley
The scoop: If you keep up with the Kardashians, you may have already noticed Kim sporting a light-up phone case that resembles a Hollywood-style makeup mirror. It’s a thick case with LED lights along the sides that charges via micro USB. It’s not as bulky as the Ty-Lite, but still provides great coverage.
Price: Around $50 on LuMee.com (depending on the version of the phone)
"Snapping a pic in the dim hallway of my house, I watched LuMee work its magic! The overall image isn’t blurry like the original (left). It reveals more detail of my face and hair–and it even makes my teeth look whiter!!"- Claire
