Is it just us or does the running list of ingredients featured in some of our favorite products these days seem to be getting more and more wild? One ingredient that we keep running into is a K-beauty favorite and is an attention grabber for sure. Volcanic ash (or volcanic clay depending on the product) isn't what you'd expect to see in your nightly face mask, but it has some surprising benefits that just might be what you're looking for. Read on to see how volcano skincare is trending in the beauty world.

The Ingredient: Volcanic ash, volcanic clay, and most commonly bentonite clay

Quick take: Powerful purifier, disinfectant, exfoliant.

Claims to fame: Most often found in deep exfoliating products like clay masks, pore exfoliators, and cleansers, volcanic ash is great for sloughing away skin, unclogging pores, and combating sebum build up. It's particularly great for acne-ridden or oily skin. But because it's gentle and reparative, it also is great for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
