Tips for Spring Break: Detoxing your Diet

Share Tweet

With spring break right around the corner, complicated cleanses and diets are all the more tempting. But if you’re not looking to do the extra research or drop the extra cash, it’s easy enough to make small adjustments to your current eating habits and reap just as many rewards. Detoxing your body with healthy food choices can help boost your metabolism, optimize digestion, strengthen your immune system, and help you lose weight so that you’re looking your best in time for this year’s bikini season!

1. Do’s: Fruits, Veggies, Lean Meats.

Focus on maximizing your nutrients and minimizing bloating. Fruits and vegetables pack a multivitamin punch while aiding your digestive system.

Try some of these fruits (the more colorful — the better!): grapefruit, avocado, blueberries, and apples.

Here are a few examples of healthy and restorative vegetables: celery, kale, cucumber, and asparagus.

For the carnivores, stick to these lean meats: chicken, turkey, and fish.

2. Don’ts: Dairy, Sugars, Alcohol, & Starches.

Take it upon yourself to avoid the bad stuff for the next few weeks. It’ll take a lot of self control, but it’ll be so worth it when you look and feel your greatest as you soak up the sun during your spring break festivities. Do your best to do away with the heaviness of dairy, the crashes from sugars, the calories from alcohol, and the carbs from starches. That’s not to say you can’t enjoy them in moderation, but make sure you’re balancing these out rather than indulging all the time.

3. Hydrate.

You’ve heard it before and now you’ll hear it again — hydrating is absolutely key to maximizing the well-being of your body. Frequent intake of liquids helps rebalance your system while also flushing out toxins and curbing hunger. Try some of these favorites to stay hydrated and healthy:

• Tea — try Yogi’s Detox Organic Herbal Tea
• Lemon water — with real lemons or powder like True Lemon for Your Water
• Green smoothies — make them yourself or buy pre-made like Cooler Cleanse or Blueprint Cleanse

4. Try new recipes.

Use this opportunity as a means of expanding your culinary horizons! Sites like Pinterest, online food blogs, and magazines are rich in recipes that cater to healthy-minded cooks. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be a chore or a struggle — have some fun in the kitchen whipping up plates you’d never imagine could be so tasty yet so nutritious!

5. Buy organic.

Especially when it comes to fruits, vegetables, and meats, it’s really important to invest the little extra to buy organic. Chemical protectants and pesticides block off a lot of nutrition you’re looking for in these healthy foods. Take this as an opportunity to explore and peruse your local farmers’ market—not only are you buying organic, you’re also supporting local farmers!

6. Bring a buddy.

Getting healthy with a friend has multiple benefits. First off, you could trade recipes and cook together. Second, you could keep each other accountable and motivate one another. Third, once spring break comes around, you can enjoy twice as many results and celebrate your success together — cheers to that!

7. Schedule ahead

Making the adjustment to a health-conscious meal plan requires time and effort. Why not try meal prepping? Call over your friend on Sunday and have a cooking day — prepare all your meals for the week and store them for easy access throughout the week! This is a great opportunity to think out how to balance your meals and save time and money during lunchtime for the weeks to come.

8. Pair with exercise.

Eating healthy can only take you so far. When looking to achieve your beach-ready body, it’s important to balance a nutritious diet with exercise. Dedicate as little as half an hour a day to exercise, and you’ll find that your results will be much more prominent. As spring break approaches, focus on working out with cardio and strengthening/toning arms, abs, and legs!
