It's fall y'all! We've already started pumpkin-fying our homes, polishing our nails with darker hues and pulling out our sweaters. So, obviously it's time to give our hair a little autumn refresh too. This year, hair trends are all about keeping things easy to maintain. So we're seeing a lot of styles that embrace length. And the latest trend that's popping up all over TikTok does just that.
Enter: curtain bangs. While bangs may sound like too much of a commitment to make right now, don't be scared away. Curtain bangs are more like a gradual tapering than a blunt cut. And they are universally flattering and easy to grow out. Hairstylist Katee Petro, SUDDZfx Ambassador and stylist at Salon Déjà vu, breaks down how to get the look and why it's so popular right now.
Why do you think this look is popular?
I think this look is popular because it allows for a ton of style and texture without compromising length.
Is it universally flattering?
This cut can be custom in length according to facial structure, which is super flattering! We can highlight a client’s best features with the proper length of the layers around the face.
What is the best way to ask for this cut?
The best way to ask for this haircut is to ask to keep your length and add long layers throughout, with shorter layers around the front. And definitely add in a fuller bang in the front, starting either chin length, cheekbone length or lip length, depending on which of those features you are looking to accent. If it’s cut with the part in the middle it can be worn to either side. I would recommend chin length to start, you can always go shorter from there.
Have you seen an uptick in requests for any variations of this look? If so, when did it start?
We have definitely seen an uptick of requests for shaggier, more layered and textured hair. We’re still seeing the trend of messier loose waves as well.
How/What would be the best way to style at home without the help of a stylist?
The best way to style this cut is to apply SUDZZfx BlowOut™ Volumizing Spray Gel in the root area, when wet, to give volume and texture. I would also add a dime size amount of SUDZZfx Zephyr® Volumizing Gel. I would blow the hair out and add waves with the HAI Beauty Concept’s Gold Convertable. After the entire head is set with waves I would spray SUDZZfx LiquidLuxe™ Luxury Mist into my palms, and finger comb all the waves out for shine and separation!
