The Most Talked About Makeup On Influenster in 2017
What a year.
Before we kiss 2017 good bye and welcome 2018—and all the new products that come with it—with open arms, we're taking a look back at some of the most popular and most talked about makeup products of the year according to our Influenster community. Now, we've already shared some of the best products of the year in our Reviewers' Choice Beauty Awards, but recently, we took a deeper look at which products and trends Influensters couldn't stop chatting about. Some of these might just surprise you!
Makeup reviews grew 2.4 times from 2016 to 2017: Although Influensters love beauty in every sense of the word, they're primarily crazy about makeup. And the love of makeup spans generations. From Gen Z to Gen Y and Gen X, makeup was the most reviewed category for products. Although makeup saw a jump in popularity across the board, it was indie makeup brands like ColourPop, Kylie Cosmetics, and Jeffree Star Cosmetics that helped the indie makeup space grow 5x from 2016 to 2017.
Keep it filtered: Getting that perfect Insta-filtered makeup look was a major trend of 2017. And Influensters were all about it, insuring conversations around the foundation stick category grow 6.5x. The top contenders are a mix of high-end and drugstore too. Influensters loved Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation Stick having 9,302 convos about it, while drugstore favorite Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free + Balance Stick Foundation racked in 7,028 conversations.
Get lit: The filtered beauty look didn't stop with foundation in 2017. Buzz about highlighters grew 4x in 2017! And although award-winners like BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter still came out on top with 25,942 convos in a year, both drugstore and indie brands were close runner ups. ColourPop's Super Shock Highlighter generated 16,195 conversations among Influensters, while Wet N Wild's MegaGlow Highlighting Powder earned 10,018.
Influensters love brows: It shouldn't come as a surprise that 2017 saw an increase in products to help makeup lovers master that always-on-fleek brow. Influensters talked most about luxury and indie brow products with Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW® Pomade generating an astounding 29,869 conversations in 2017 alone!
All about the eyes: But the eye love didn't stop with brow power. 2017 may as well be called the year of the eyeshadow palette—conversations on Influenster about luxury eyeshadow palettes grew 3.7x in 2017, meaning Influensters are crazy about eyeshadow and they aren't afraid to splurge on them. Their favorite splurges? Urban Decay's Naked Palette saw 49,207 conversations, Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette saw 36,314 conversations, and indie favorites like Huda Beauty's Textured Eyeshadows Palette Rose Gold Edition and Morphe 35F Fall into Frost Palette both saw more than 7K conversations in this year alone.
Liquid lipstick is king: Although Influensters reviewed all things lip-related like crazy, their favorite were liquid lipstick, which helped achieve the 2017 trend of the pillowy pout. The top lippies to receive the most chatter on Influenster probably won't surprise lipstick junkies. Kylie Cosmetics Kylie Lip Kit generated 30,078 in 2017, while Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick garnered 35,634, and NYX Lip Lingerie earned 14,052.
But don't discount lip liner: Although liquid lipstick was the top ruler in the lip category, the buzz for lip liners like the Influenster favorite NYX Slim Liner Pencil and lip scrubs like the e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator both categories grow 3x in 2017.
