The Moment I Learned to Embrace My Beauty Mark

Share Tweet

The moment I learned to embrace my beauty mark? I think it was more of a gradual process for me. I had the worst awkward stage: braces, breakouts--all the usual adolescent inconveniences. Adding one more spot to the mix wasn’t exactly ideal. Not to mention, I had zero idea how to apply makeup. Thankfully there were people out there on YouTube better skilled than my 8th-grade techniques, and I fell in love with watching makeup tutorials. I started playing with bronzer and blush to see how my skin could come to life. I even saw tutorials for how to draw on beauty marks. WHAT?! I started realizing it was kind of cool to be born with something that makes me unique.

So, flash forward to 9 years later, I’ve found products that I adore and make me feel comfortable in my own skin. Let me share with you a few of mine that I use to play up my cheeks.

PS: I hope you realize with time that you should absolutely never feel like you need to hide your freckles, birthmarks, or whatever it is that sets you apart from the rest. Embrace them! I hope my favorite products will become yours, too!

Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette for $39.50 at Sephora

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette

Why I LOVE it: I’ll never use another contour kit again. These powders go on SO smoothly and it gives the prettiest summer glow. I like having a little definition and slight illusion of higher cheekbones to compliment my beauty mark.

Product: Chanel Jous Contraste for $45 at Nordstrom

Chanel Jous Contraste

Why I LOVE it: Prettiest. Pink. Ever. I absolutely love brushing this over my cheeks for a rosy glow. A little goes a long way and mine has lasted me over a year now. It’s super light, so it doesn’t look overbearing on top of my beauty mark.

Product: Real Techniques Core Collection for $17.99 at Walgreens

Real Techniques Core Collection

Why I LOVE it: Brushes really do make all the difference. Real Techniques brushes are amazing at grabbing the product and providing even coverage. I don’t have to use as much product because these brushes move my foundation so well. And less product means less coverage over my beauty mark!

Product: Royal Beauty Blender for $20 at Macy’s

 Royal Beauty Blender

Why I LOVE it: I use the Beauty Blender after applying foundation with brushes to really set the product into my skin. Sometimes lighter-colored foundation can look a little strange sitting on top of my darker beauty mark, so this beauty blender really sets my makeup into my pores and makes it easy to get precise application around my beauty mark rather than on top of it!

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation

Product: Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation for $38 at Sephora

Why I LOVE it:  I love how long-lasting this foundation is. When I put this on with the Beauty Blender and Real Techniques brushes, it really sets into the skin and makes the coloring of my skin very even. The best part is that it’s not too full coverage where it takes away from my beauty mark.
