The Gentlemen's Guide to Being Dapper: Retailers & You
Hello there, guys. Are you on a bit of a self-improvement kick? Maybe you’ve been watching Don Draper on Mad Men or Mike Ross on Suits and thought that you want to be more like that. Well, we can’t tell you how to make a great ad pitch or give you photographic memory, but we can make sure that you look and feel your confident best.
A wise man once said, “shoot for the stars, so that if you fall you land on a cloud.” That was Kanye West. Don’t worry you don’t have to buy a leather kilt, but maybe it’s time to consider hitting up Bloomingdale’s for some new duds. If you’re a little bit hipper, then maybe Zara or Topman is your speed. The point here is effort. The clothes make the man. Kanye didn’t say that, but we can pretend he did.
When deciding on stores for yourself, you need to consider the way that you want to be perceived. It’s possible to look great dressed down or dressed up, as long as you’re making a conscious choice and matching that choice to the situation you’re dressing for. Every retailer has a large variety of clothes for you to consider, but they’re going to differ in the way the clothes fit and the overall style that they project. If you find a brand you like, don’t be afraid to really rely on it.
That said, don’t settle for a look just because it’s convenient. Price range is absolutely a part of where we shop, or we’d all be at Armani. Obviously, not everyone can afford that, but just because the pharmacy down the block sells t-shirts for a dollar doesn’t mean that those are going to be what looks best on you. Trust us when we say that your care and consideration will be rewarded. Even if you don’t think you’re concerned with your threads, just wait until someone gives you a compliment on a bold new look you’re trying, or notices a well-placed dash of color in an old standby.
You don’t have to thank us, but you’re such a classy gentleman, you probably will anyway.
