I started using the free Map My Run app recently for runs and bike rides and am quite impressed with all of the features it has to offer. Don’t let the name fool you, this app is not just for runners. In addition to running, this app can track hundreds of activities including cycling, hiking, swimming, kayaking and dog walking. Yes, dog walking. The app has GPS built in and tracks your calories burned, mileage, pace, average mph and split pace between miles. There is also a route mapping feature that is pretty neat because in addition to showing you mileage, it also displays elevation which can be quite useful if you are unfamiliar with the area you are running. Once you have completed a workout, the app gives you the option to share your workout results to Twitter and or Facebook for bragging rights. Another feature the app offers, one that I have not tried yet, is a food log to help you keep track of what your are eating. This is a pretty solid app, and I highly recommend giving it a try if you are in search of an activity tracker.
