But, with so many options out there, it can be a little overwhelming trying to find one that is compatible with your skin type. Before clicking “add to cart,” you’ve got to do a little background research. From brightening to blurring, there’s a primer out there for every skin type and concern.

Honey makeup artist, Suzy Gerstein, who’s worked with celebs such as Leighton Meester, weighed in with her expertise on some base-perfecting products according to skin type. Ahead, check out her guide to finding the ideal primer for your complexion.

Normal skin.

Dry skin.

Product: NARS Light Optimizing Primer

You can’t go wrong with the Nars Optimizing Primer, it’s oil-free and really enhances your complexion. Gerstein said the product “brightens, blurs imperfections, and keeps skin comfortable and hydrated without ever going greasy.”

Product: Amala Blue Lotus Purifying Mattifier

The Amala Blue Lotus Purifying Mattifier is a super lightweight mattifier that helps purify pores. “It absorbs excess shine in all the right places without stripping moisture in drying areas,” Gerstein said. “It feels refreshing on the skin.”

Product: Benefit The Porefessional
