The Best Halloween Costumes for Every Age
I don’t think I’d be the only one to support a motion to rename October to Halloween, right? Halloween, the day celebrating fall, pumpkins, candy, and dressing up as literally anything we wanted without judgment, is fast approaching. If I were to ask you which Halloween store first comes to mind, you’d be lying if you didn’t say Spirit. The holy mecca of Halloween, Spirit is the first place you should stop when starting your Hallo-day prep. No matter your age, Spirit will definitely have a costume for you. Here’s a roundup of some of my favorites by each age group!

Get ready to fawn over adorably dressed babies even MORE than usual. These little nuggets have endless potential when it comes to costume ideas, so start brainstorming now! My favorites: little monkey will always be the cutest classic, while the mini hot dog baby will keep everyone laughing. Jack Jack from the Incredibles, while extremely adorable, can be a bit unpredictable—be prepared with a fire extinguisher in case he bursts into flames!
Why leave the crime fighting to the boys? Girls can kick butt and save the day too! If your little lady doesn’t want to be a princess this year, let her be a hero—just because she’s bringing justice doesn’t mean she can’t wear sparkles and a tutu! A classic all generations can appreciate is Mario. I love that this costume features his partner in crime, Yoshi! Girls who air on the side of mischief might enjoy causing trouble in this adorable Queen of Hearts costume. Just be careful that she doesn’t decide, “off with your head”! If your boy is a class clown, he’s sure to bring the house down in this hilarious grandpa outfit. Paired with a can and constant nags at hooligans to get off the yard, this costume is bound to be a hit.
Tweens & Teens
Whether you’re finally done with your awkward phase or still struggling with being a braceface, you can still rock a cute costume this Halloween. Want to go for a spooky look? This voodoo doll costume is cute and original but still definitely has a creepy feel to it. You can pretend to stick needles into dolls of your enemies all night long! If you’re looking for a classic, flapper girls will never go out of style. Any reason to wear fringe and feathers is good enough for me, am I right? Or, you could pay homage to Angelina with this killer Maleficent look. Those horns are to die for! (Just keep your fingers away from any eerie, enchanted spindles).
Who says we have to leave all the fun to the kids? There’s no age limit on dressing up, and quite frankly I think Halloween is just as fun as we get older. I mean, just check out that Ron Burgundy costume. There’s no better way to stay classy, unless your dog looked like Baxter too. You could also honor a childhood favorite with this glitzy Spongebob costume. The frycook look doesn’t have to be goofy! However, I must say that my favorite out of this entire list is the Left Blue Shark costume, hailing straight from Katy Perry’s performance at the Superbowl halftime show. If you need an extra excuse to look cute while holding a massive jar of beer, I’d definitely consider the option of dressing up as Miss Oktoberfest.
