The Best Beauty Tips and Trends From Canada Fashion Weeks Fall 2017
2017 is shaping up to be so chic.
We had New York, London, Milan, and Paris, but the shows didn't end with Paris Fashion Week. It was still Canada's turn to showcase some serious style, and we were lucky enough to be treated to two different fashion weeks—Toronto and Vancouver. If you didn't snag an invite to the shows, don't worry, because we asked beauty experts about the top hair and makeup trends you need to know about.
First up, we spoke with Jorge Joao’s, Redken International Artist for all things hair.
Trend #1—Unexpected Elements
"This season we saw a lot of unique looks that incorporated texture with braids and twists," said Jorge. "Rachel Sin pulled beach waves back with a braid, Roch created controlled chaos by incorporating rope twists into wet textured hair, and Lesley Hampton paired fluffy curls with cornrow braids and metal accessories, just to name a few. Although all these looks were very unique, they all followed the trend of incorporating multiple elements into one look in a creative and unexpected way," he added.

Trend #2—Sleek Styles
"Wet textured looks were also a huge on the runway this season, whether it was for a simple slicked back look like at David Dixon or a more intricate updo. We have also seen a lot of hair accessories on the runway this season," Jorge said.
"To create wet texture, Redken Guts 10 is the best," explained Jorge. "I almost always use Redken Pillow Proof Primer Spray to prep hair before blow drying and Redken Iron Shape 11 to protect hair before using hot tools. To finish looks, Redken Triple Take 32 is great for looks that need high hold and Redken Shine Flash 02 to add shine."
Next up, Courtney Kelly, a Beauty BOUTIQUE Beauty Expert at Shoppers Drug Mart, gave us the deets on the makeup trends from Canadian Fasion Weeks.
Trend #1—Au Naturel:
"The biggest beauty trend I saw on the runway at Toronto Women's Fashion Week was flawless, natural-looking skin with glossy lids and lips," Courtney said. "Last year, everything was about the matte look but the new trend is a fresher face with a radiant pop of color."
Trend #2—Go Bold
"The key makeup colors for the season are: orange, red and tangerine lips—coral shadows, monochromatic eyes and lips, and pastel shades," she added.
"My top five beauty trends of the season are: flawless, natural-looking skin i.e. 'no makeup, makeup'; glossy lids and lips; bold lips; bronzed and dewy; and big pops of color on the eyelid," she said.
Bonus tip: Overhaul Your Makeup Bag
"Updating your makeup bag is very important," explained Courtney. "The trends are currently changing but also, for sanitary reasons, you should purge every once and awhile. An easy foundation for quick, flawless application is something every women should carry. Try using a cushion foundation like the new one from Quo. It's lightweight but still provides medium coverage and is perfect for a quick touch up. I would also invest in a highlighting stick. This is great to blend on the high points of your face to give you an illuminated, fresh look. Lastly, a nice bold cherry or coral lip color is a must this season. A bold lip can brighten up your whole face in one swipe."
