Top-Rated Banana Setting Powders, and How to Use It

Banana powder works best for olive, golden, or yellow undertoned complexions.

Originally created by professional makeup artists, banana translucent powder was designed to be a "universally flattering" setting powder. MUAs use this yellow powder to color-correct ashy skin, absorb excess oil, brighten up the under-eye area, and set concealer in place.

How To Use Banana Powder

1. Apply your concealer and makeup

2. Dip a powder brush in the banana powder and apply broadly across your face as a setting powder

3. You can leverage the "bake" technique, by applying more powder to your under eye area, on top of your concealer (you may want to use a makeup sponge), and letting it sit for five minutes.

4. Dust off any excess powder with brush

I loved Ben Nye and thought it didn't get any better until I purchased this buttercup powder! It's finely milled and has just the right amount of yellow for my skintone. I do recommend this product for deeper skintones. It may have too much yellow for lighter skin tones. I purchased mine from Amazon. I didn't want to buy it directly from the website because I didn't want to wait about a week to purchase it when I could get it the next day. I watched many YT reviews on this and it was worth the try. There's nothing against Ben Nye because I'll still use it but Sacha buttercup gives me off a better color.

I bought this powder after a friend recommended it to me - I was feeling like my usual setting/baking powder was making my face look flat - if that makes any sense - even when I was using a highlighter in combination. This powder adds just a touch of warmth to my skin without adding any real yellowy tones and it's a perfect fine texture that seems to float on top of my liquid foundation and creme concealers. I do apply it sparingly under my eyes as I find it can settle there a little bit otherwise this is my daily next-to-last step before applying my setting spray. Worth the cost!

Get. This. Powder. [product:essence-brighten-up!-banana-powder] is a holy grail for me! It doesn’t crease or dry up, it makes your face look bright and ‘buttery’. I love to apply it to my under eyes and tops of cheekbones, and other parts of my face that I’d like to stand out more. The color is gorgeous and brightens my pale skin. Sometimes I can go overboard and it still doesn’t look cakey or unnatural. Your makeup is just incomplete without this! I’m unsure of how this works on darker skin tones so I cannot speak on that. The only complain I have is that the packaging is easily damaged. The clasp broke off and then the top detached, so it’s not very travel friendly. You cannot beat the price — can’t wait to buy another one!

I really enjoyed this product. It reminds me of the banana powder from Ben Ben cosmetics. It sets my makeup pretty well. I have beige almost tan looking skin and it makes my skin looks so flawless. Very soft. Baking with this product has made my life. So much easier. My face doesn't get super oily as fast. . I have to see within 5 hours. My face does get a little oily but it still looks good. . I don't recommend for those who have very severe dry skin because I do have dry combination skin. And on days especially during winter. My skin is very dry, and it doesn't look that well with the setting powder. So that's just an FYI.

I recommend this no filter loose setting powder. I wanted a quality setting powder to set my under eye concealer that didn’t break the bank. Being a black woman, it’s hard to find a setting powder that doesn’t make me white or ashy. This product is affordable, has a great yellow under tone and bakes my concealer flawlessly. Colourpop did a thing with this product.

If I could give this powder more than 5 stars I would. I use the banana powder normally in the summer when I've got a tan going on. Winter time and fall I use Cameo. These powders are SO legit. They go on so smoothly and completely erase all my fine lines and wrinkles. I feel like a supermodel when I wear my Ben Nye! I gave my 62 yr old mother a makeup one day for fun and she said Nooo don't use powder on me!!! But I reassured her... and she was amazed!! It literally looked so flawless and took years off her face. I like to "bake" my face with these powders. They stay on all day and don't feel too heavy. Buy. This. Now!

Banana setting powder is my favorite type of setting and full face powder. This product doesn't only set your make up in but it helps brighten up your face and it lasts all day. It's the perfect color for everyone in my opinion. Lighter or darker skin tones work with this powder and that's what I think is so awesome about it. It also smells good which is a plus. A little goes a very long way with this product and I highly recommend to give it a try if setting powder is something that you use.

My favorite banana powder! I love how brightening it is under my eyes. I bake with it after I use my tarte™ Shape Tape Contour Concealer, and I leave the BP there for around 5 mins. I don’t get any creasing throughout the day and even with my oily skin, it looks nice and glowy! I would have rated it as 5-stars if it came in bigger packaging, along with more product. I think that $13.99 for such a small amount of product is the only downside. Other than that, this is a great brightening banana powder :-)

I LOVED THIS POWDER!!! I have had expensive baking powders before and I wanted something more affordable and I was nervous this might make my skin look funny but this was the perfect shade and texture to make my skin looked airbrush. With ANY baking powder, please make sure you have the right tools!!! Some of the bad reviews on this product I truly believe are from people who did not have the right tools or they did not Prep the canvas aka the skin for a smooth look. When you don't use the right tools or using poorly made brushes and stuff it can make the best products seem they are bad because you aren't doing them justice!!! And They also may have had product ingredients that didn't want to cooperate with this product. Not crashing on anyone though because I have certainly made this mistake MANY times and everyone is at a different place in their make up game and I totally understand that!! With any baking powder you always want to pair it with a good concealer and a build able foundation. I have Clinique foundation and L'Oréal concealer and I felt like a new woman with flawless skin. Also, it is super important to bake but also set your bake with finishing spray if you want extra security which I advise everyone to use either a sponge or a brush-whatever you are comfortable with!! Great price-great coverage!!

I like this setting powder and it really does help brighten under my eyes. I put a lot on and then sweep off the excess. For the price I think it is good. It does tend to have a lot of fall out though. I also really like the packaging and being able to see what's inside since it is a clear cover.

This product is great for under the eye highlight! You can use this all over the face to keep makeup in place, or use on targeted areas for brightening effect. I suggest after applying under the eyes, spray some mac prep and prime, it makes a big difference. Looks amazing in photos!

I’ve used the same container of this stuff for almost a year & I use it daily to bake & set. So for the price, you cannot beat the value & longevity. It sets my makeup & keeps me from feeling oily or looking shiny throughout the day. There’s no scent or anything so it’s safe for those sensitive to that. Overall I definitely recommend this, it’s a good everyday product. HARD CANDY Loose Banana Finishing Powder

E.L.F. is a brand known for it's amazing quality and low cost. So for me, this was a product where brand reputation really 'sold' it to me. I've tried and loved many translucent finishing powders from much better names, like Laura Mercier, which cost upwards towards $40. This was only around $6 and I knew it would be a quality powder, so I would be crazy not to have tried it out. This product like any other finishing powder, versatile, light, beautifully natural on skin. You can use it to brighten bags under your eyes, highlight the 'T' zone on your face to get this wonderful glow, use it very lightly to minimize oily shine. The list goes on and on. But it tops all other products in the same quality line when it comes to the price tag. I mean, $6 is an unbelievably low price to pay to look prefect. For that low cost you get quality product, but cheap packaging. I carefully took the powder package apart and tipped all of the powder into a cute small glass jar, and I use a fan make-up brush to apply it very sparingly to areas on my face. If you use too much, you'll walk outside looking very pale (in a very bad way)
