When shopping for makeup, what factors are most important to you? Is it price? Quality? Value? Chances are, it's all of the above. With so many brands out there, it can be tough to make a decision about the right products for you.
Here at Influenster we love makeup from all walks of life - be it department store, drugstore, or specialty shop. So we wanted to know - what is the REAL difference between our favorite drugstore and prestige beauty brands?
In order to find, out we put beauty brands of varying price points up against each other in the Battle of the Brands: Save vs Splurge. Through this series we attempt to create identical makeup looks using beauty products from high and low price points. In this round of Battle of the Brands, our co-founder Elizabeth explores how Rimmel London products compare to prestige brands like Chanel, MAC, Benefit, and NARS. Scroll down to see the results!
There's a more than $130 difference in the cost to complete each of these looks. Can you guess which one was made for a little more than $30 and which was cost more than $150? If you need a little more help - check out the products that were used for each look below.
These are the products we matched up for this round of Batlle of the Brands. Any of your favorites involved? Leave them a review! Still can't guess which look cost less? See the big reveal below.
Rimmel London Products:
On Buying Habits: Part of my job is knowing what's new in beauty, so I spend as much time perusing Sephora as I do wandering drug store aisles. I'm always on the lookout for the newest colors, products, and innovations when it comes to cosmetics, skin care, nails, and hair care.
On the Products: I love love LOVED the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner. It went on so smooth and looked super sleek - it was shocking. My Chanel is obviously great too, but if there wasn't a label I would have thought Rimmel was the eye pencil splurge, primarily because of the silkiness in the application. It felt expensive and luxurious to me.
Recommendations: As I said, Rimmel Scandaleyes eye pencil is a definite buy. I'm also a huge fan of the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick. It not only lasts but keeps its moisture for hours, and I get tons of compliments whenever I wear it!
If you are looking for a heavier, long-lasting foundation coverage, the MAC Studio Sculpt is a great option. It stays on forever and has a dewey finish that lasts all day - no reapplication necessary. If you want something a little lighter that still has the lasting power (and saves you some cash), I would say save with Rimmel Long Lasting 25H Foundation. Even with its lightweight feel, it does a great job at evening out my skin tone. Overall I'm really impressed as I tend to stick to prestige bronzers and foundations.
UP CLOSE WITH RIMMEL
Long Lasting 25H Foundation with Comfort Serum: This foundation is the perfect precursor to any beauty look. The liquid formula makes it very easy to blend seamlessly with your skin tone. With SPF 20, it's ready for any season and lasts way past the workday.
Stay Blushed! Liquid Cheek Tint: The Stay Blushed! Liquid Cheek Tint formula is super lightweight, leaving your cheeks beautifully flushed. The tint lasts long, yet doesn't feel heavy. It gives a natural look that can easily work day or night.
Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner: This one is a crowd favorite from the Frosty VoxBox. Influensters everywhere agreed that this waterproof eyeliner has smooth application and can stand the test of time against sweat, smudge, and anything else that might get in the way.
Moisture Renew Lipstick in As You Want Victoria: Another Influenster favorite is the Moisture Renew lipstick collection. Enriched with Vitamins A, C, and E, these lipsticks moisturize amazingly without compromising beautiful color.
Scandaleyes Flex Mascara: This mascara is perfect for anyone who wants dramatic lashes without the clump. The Scandaleyes Flex Mascara leaves lashes full and volumptuous without stiffness - a necessity for any makeup look.
