We Tried It: Tinted Facial Oil

I'll be the first to admit it: I don't like wearing makeup. Now I'm not saying I don't love a good eyeshadow palette, and I'm certainly a sucker for a shimmery highlighter, but when it comes to actual foundation, I'm just not a fan. I've tried a number of formulas, and many leave me feeling as if I'm wearing face paint. So when I heard ReVive was launching a tinted face oil, I was intrigued—after all, my love of skincare does runs deep. Could a facial oil really offer enough coverage to mimic foundation, yet retain the lightweight feel and healing nature of a skincare product? To find out, I put the new tinted facial oil to the test!

What is it: ReVive Le Tint Moisturizing Veil, $105 at Nordstrom

What it does: Made from rich, nourishing oil from the Mediterranean and eastern Africa, this oil is formulated like any other skincare product—with a twist! Bio-engineered ingredients are formulated to aid in cell turnover while light-enhancing pigments provide just a touch of color to create a veil of coverage over skin.

Why we love it: The oil is velvety smooth and applies as easily as my favorite face serum. It sinks in quickly so as not to leave skin greasy. My skin was left nourished and plump all day but never oily. In fact, despite being a hydrating oil, the finish of the product really has more of a matte touch. Simply shake the bottle and blend all over for a smooth, even application after applying SPF and serum.

And when it comes to color, the pigment was strong enough to even out my skin tone, hide any redness, and cover up minor blemishes (aka my main skincare concern) but not too heavy as to make me feel like I was wearing cakey foundation. And the best part? The color lasts. Even in New York's blistering heat, the oil didn't roll or slide off throughout the day. (I even have a feeling this will be even better in winter, when skin will need a little extra moisture.) Bottom line: Foundation haters, you might have just met your match. I sure did.
