Rest and Relax with These Top Self-Care Practices

De-stressing for the mind, body, and soul.

Rest is vital for our overall health and well-being, and is necessary so we can be active and productive. April is Stress Awareness Month, and we want to share some of our favorite self-care tips and tools to de-stress and achieve relaxation for the mind, body, and soul.

Mind over matter

Did you know that meditation improves anxiety levels 60% of the time? Getting into the habit of meditating can also promote productivity, improve relationships and regulate your mood. You can start with sessions as short as five minutes a day and expand your practice over time.

Apps are a great way to get into the habit of meditating. At Influenster, we love Headspace, which offers a wide range of programs to build a solid foundation for meditation. Learn different techniques and even access short workouts to get your body and mind in sync.

The best deal you can get at the moment is with the Balance app. The app is currently giving access to its premium version for an entire year to celebrate their award for Google's Best App of 2021. The app will offer a curated program to help you work through different concerns, from "facing fear" to "easing loneliness."

If you're still on the fence, download the crowd-pleasing Calm app, which offers several meditations and "Sleep Stories" to take care of your mind, even when it's resting. They feature recognizable voices such as LeBron James, Diane Keaton, and even Harry Styles. Final tip: you can set the mood for your practice by pairing it with aromatherapy. For your Body

Yoga is a great practice to relieve stress because it kickstarts the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for rest, digestion, energy conservation, and slowing down the heart rate.

Yoga styles range from restorative practices that help the body rest and heal, to ashtanga, which helps improve balance, focus, and coordination. You can try both these styles and more on the Down Dog app or

Soulful Sleep

Sleep’s positive impact on health is a well-known fact, but if you want the specifics, just know that it can boost your immune system, mood, and memory. When you’re not getting shut-eye, your stress levels naturally increase, and your quality of life is likely to decline.

Another habit for a good night is journaling. A 2018 study from the Emory University in Georgia showed that writing down your thoughts before bed decreases distractions and overthinking, helping to fall asleep faster. If you’re a digital person, Daylio is a great app to jot down your mood quickly and efficiently. If you’re more of a “pen to paper” type, it doesn’t get better than Moleskine.

Pick the finest silk to cover your eyes with this 5-stars Alaska Bear Sleep Mask. And if you need some extra help to fall asleep, melatonin supplements may help. This hormone naturally occurs in your body to control your circadian rhythm, making you feel calm and sleepy. Influenster members have pledged their love for the Spring Valley supplement repeatedly.

Sleep coaching can be as simple as downloading Sleep Cycle, an app that records the noise you make as you sleep and identifies coughing, talking or snoring. It then uses graphs to interpret the quality of your sleep. They also have a fun feature showing which country tends to wake up late, snore, or have the best night of sleep. Unsurprisingly, Finland is currently at the top of the board—living in the happiest country in the world has its perks.
