As much fun as 2017 was (for the foodie world, at least!), we're ready to call it a year and look forward to 2018. And we have three main reasons as to why—three new Oreo flavors await us in the new year. And, as if that wasn't good new enough, listen to this: each of the new flavors was dreamed up by an Oreo fan.
You might remember this past summer when Oreo asked consumers to submit their best ideas for a new Oreo flavor via the #MyOreoCreation social contest with the promise that the winner's cookie will get packaged and sold in stores. (The winner will also a whopping $500,000, so there's that incentive too!) Oreo shared some of the fan creations this past summer and although there were quite a few viable winners, Oreo has selected three to stand above the rest.
The flavors in the running for the newest Oreo flavor are: Cherry Cola, Piña Colada, and Kettle Corn. Now, if you're curious what on Earth these could taste like, here's what we know: Piña Colada is pineapple-coconut creme filling sandwich between two vanilla cookies; Cherry Cola is the traditional chocolate cookies with a layer of red and white creme with crackling, "fizzy" candy; lastly, Kettle Corn is a millet-stuffed creme with vanilla cookies.
Unfortunately, not only will we have to wait until 2018 to get our hands on these cookies, but we'll have to wait until May 2018 to do so! Once the cookies hit the stores, then the public can taste-test these sweets and vote for the winning flavor that will remain on shelves—and for the creator of the flavor to win that $500,000.
Is it the new year yet?
