5 Mocktails to Liven Up a Dry January

No alcohol, no prob.

You indulged in one too many spiked eggnogs and now you feel sluggish and bloated. Dry January it is! Managing to resist the sweet lure of an alcoholic bev during the most miserable month of the year is a tough challenge. Let's make it easier for you with five mocktails that taste better than the real thing! 

Mango Mule

Ingredients:

4-5 slices of cucumber

1 oz honey syrup

1.5 oz mango puree

1.5 oz fresh lime juice

1.5 oz. ginger beer

Muddle cucumber and honey syrup in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the mango puree and lime juice and shake for 10 seconds. Strain into a tall glass of fresh ice and serve.

Grapefruit Basil Mimosa

Ingredients:

1 grapefruit; plus additional grapefruit for garnish

2 cups of ice

3 x 12oz cans of ginger soda

handful of fresh basil

1/4 cup basil simple syrup

Juice one large grapefruit. Fill a pitcher half way with ice. Pour soda, fresh grapefruit juice and simple syrup. Mix well. Garnish with grapefruit slices and fresh basil.

Non-Alcoholic Sangria

Ingredients:

2 cups boiling water

2 black tea bags (or 2 teaspoons loose-leaf tea in an infuser; decaf tea is fine)

2 cinnamon sticks

1/2 cup sugar

3 cups pomegranate juice

1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

1 orange, sliced into thin rounds

1 lemon, sliced into thin rounds

1 lime, sliced into thin rounds

1 apple, cored and cut into 1/2-inch chunks

3 cups carbonated water

Pour the boiling water over tea bags and cinnamon sticks and steep for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags and stir in sugar to dissolve.In a large jar or pitcher, combine tea, pomegranate juice, cinnamon sticks, orange juice, orange, lemon, lime, and apple. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Ingredients:

1/2 Avocado

1/4 Cup Water

1 Fresh Squeezed Lime

1/4 Cup Agave Nectar

Sugar

Thyme

Ice

Club soda

Dampen the rim of a small glass with agave nectar and dip in mixture of sugar and thyme. Combine avocado, lime, water, and agave nectar in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour mixture into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cool. Pour mixture into glass and add club soda. Stir and drink.

Strawberry Cucumber Limeade

Ingredients:

Strawberry slices

Cucumber slices

2 limes

Mint or basil leaves

Sugar sprinkles for garnish

Simple syrup

Club soda

Prepare your glass by adding sugar sprinkles to one side of the rim using a brush of honey or simple syrup. In your glass, combine the juice of two limes, 1 tablespoon simple syrup, and ice. Stir and top off with club soda. Add cucumbers, strawberries, and mint for garnish.
