We're more than just your go-to for honest product reviews and new product launches. Here at Influenster, we want to introduce you to the amazing brains behind some of your favorite beauty brands. In fact, it's one of our favorite parts of the gig! This week we're sharing with you the story of Mally Roncal, makeup artist, author, and founder of the eponymous cosmetic brand—Mally Beauty. Don't let her bubbly personality fool you, she's a hardcore business woman! We chatted with her about how she got her start, how confidence and positivity play a big part in her life, and of course, which products she's loving.

What was your first job in the beauty business?

"My first job was at the original Barneys on 16th [in New York City] at the Shiseido counter putting makeup on every customer that walked in."

What was the biggest challenge you faced starting out?

"I have always been extra—lots of hair, makeup, and laughter—and when I was starting out, makeup artists were more into an undone-chic look. I was told several times that in order to succeed in the business, I would have to change my image and be more understated. That made me doubt myself, but I realized that I just needed to be me!"

So what inspired you to start your own company?

"The makeup line was created out of my needs as a celebrity makeup artist* [and] not having all of the products that I wished to have for my clients. I also wanted to take all of my tips and tricks and make them accessible to all women."

*Editor's note: Mally has worked on celebrity clients such as Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, and so much more! We first met her more than four years ago back stage at New York Fashion Week!

Where did you see yourself at 20?

"I was in school for fashion design, so I knew that I was going to be in the fashion and beauty world. I always loved communicating and lifting people up and making them feel good about who they were, so I knew that my life would incorporate aspects of beauty, fashion, and inspiration."

Amazing! Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

"My dream is to basically be like Oprah—communicating, lifting people up, and helping people to find positivity in a sometimes not-so positive world, while always embracing fashion, beauty, and style. I am also super passionate about rescuing animals, so I would love to have a huge farm that I could turn into an animal sanctuary! These are all three totally different worlds, but somehow I would like to find a way to bring them together. And of course, surrounded by my beautiful husband and babies (and their husbands and babies)."

What empowers and fulfills you as a businesswoman?

"I am empowered when I people tell me that I inspired them to think positive, find their joy in every moment, that something I said or did inspired them to think about things a little bit differently and made them smile and rethink the way they do something."

What is the best business advice you've received?

"Stay true to who you are."

On the flip side, what is the best beauty advice you've received?

"When in doubt, just smile. Smiling makes everyone pretty. Have a kind heart too because nothing is more beautiful than a kind heart."

You always cite your Mom as a huge role model in your life. How did she shape you to be the powerful businesswoman and leader that you are today?

"She treated everyone like a superstar. She treated each person with the exact same respect. That is my same philosophy and what I instill in my three girls. I believe that is the only way to act in live and in business."

What do you hope that Mally Beauty as a brand will instill upon or shake up the beauty industry?

"My parents always said that what makes you different makes you beautiful. I want everyone who wears Mally Beauty to realize that they are the most beautiful creature in the world because God made them that way and they should embrace it."

What is one piece of advice you'd give other women looking to break into the beauty business?

"Don’t compare yourself to others. I know it’s very hard in this world of social media with everybody posting all of the time. Everyone is always comparing themselves and it just leads you down a dark path. You need to fight the urge to look to compare yourselves to others."

Lastly, if you HAD to pick, what are you top three must-have Mally Beauty products?

"My Mally Beauty Evercolor Poreless Face Defender, H3 Concealer, and Instantly Impactful Mascara."
