How to Clean with Lemon Juice

Make something other than lemonade.

When life hands you lemons...use them to clean your home and enhance your beauty routine! Is that not the saying? It should be! This edition of Household Hacks will have you buying lemons by the bag. We are here with tips to help you get the most bang for your buck!

What you'll need:

Lemon juice
Olive oil

Microwave Deodorizer

Nothing quite like a stinky microwave to ruin your appetite. Fear not! Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and half of a lemon. Zap for about five minutes to neutralize the odors and get your appetite back!

Polish Pal

Have you ever noticed that furniture polish smells a lot like lemons? That’s no coincidence! You can mix 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to create a polish of your own. Apply the mixture to a soft cotton cloth and wipe with wide strokes to recover that shine!

Rust Remedy

Mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice with 2 tablespoons of salt to create a rust removing paste. Apply to an old toothbrush and scrub the affected areas. Watch the rust disappear right before your eyes.

Coffee Machine Magic

After a while, your coffee machine will develop a lime scale buildup which affects the performance and taste of your precious coffee. Put a mixture of ½ water and ½ lemon juice into the water reservoir and let it sit for 15 minutes to break down any unwanted oils and residue. Rinse it out and "brew" a cup of hot water or 2 to clear out any remaining lemon juice. This hack can also be done with white vinegar!

Bye-Bye Blackheads!

Lemon juice is an all-star ingredient when it comes to DIY exfoliators. In a small bowl, mix together ½ teaspoon of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of water and 1 tablespoon of salt (sea salt if you have it). Apply the mixture to your face in areas where blackheads tend to pop up. Gently massage in your skin using your fingertips and watch them disappear!

Summer Soiree MVP

This isn’t as much of a hack as it is just a cute and easy DIY to impress your guests. Sorbet is the perfect “hot weather” dessert. So light, refreshing and guilt-free—at least in our opinion! To make it look as good as it tastes, hollow out lemon-halves to use as the bowls! “Insta-worthy” pic at your service!
