We Tried It: Kérastase's New Fusio-Dose Hair Treatment

The hunt for healthy and beautiful hair can be an on-going quest for many—this editor included. Often times, nourishing, hydrating products lack beauty-boosting styling power, and conversely, those products that make hair photo-worthy often times lack the ingredients to keep it healthy! To see the mixture of healthy and beautiful hair in action, we teamed up with Kérastase to test out their new Fusio-Dose in-salon hair treatment.

At the Kérastase Fusio-Dose Hair Lab at your local salon, your stylist will analyze and diagnose your hair's specific needs and prescribe a custom treatment to give just what your locks crave. The process is surprisingly simple. First, the stylist chooses one of the four concentrés as a base—Oléo Fusion for nutrition, Pixelist for shine, Vita-ciment for strength, and Densifique for density. Then, your stylist will add in a booster to target your hair's secondary concern. Booster options include: Nutrition, Brilliance, Reconstruction, Densité, and Discipline. The result: A tailor-made treatment designed to treat your biggest hair woe.

To see the results first hand, I headed to Butterfly Salon in New York City, where I met with hair stylist Dana Tizzio. Dana took one look at my hair and knew exactly what I needed: strength and moisture. I'll admit it, I have a lot of hair and it's pretty unruly at times, but lacking in strength? Never. Well, as it turns out, that's exactly what I needed to keep my long, wavy mane healthy.

"I saw that you had natural hair on top and older highlights towards the mid-shaft to ends and that's the hair that needs to be treated," Dana explained to me. "So I used [Kérastase Concentré Vita-ciment] Strengthening and a boost of moisture treatment to help keep you hair strong and long." With that diagnosis, Dana's assistant whipped up—in scientific fashion, I might add—a custom blend of Kérastase Concentré Vita-ciment and a dash of the Nutrition Booster.

After a wash and condition, her assistant applied the treatment. Then it was off to Dana for a blowout and to see the results. And, let's just say I was not prepared for what I saw. Almost instantly, it was apparent that my once-frazzled locks had been tamed. My hair's cuticles were smooth and shiny—a difficult task to achieve, as any girl with wavy or curly hair knows! But more importantly, my hair was strong.

Although this treatment lasts about five to seven washes, Dana recommends following with Kérastase shampoo. The brand offers Bain Fluidealiste, a sulfate-free shampoo designed for unruly hair, which is perfect for me to prolong my treatment and see maximum results. Have a different hair concern? Thankfully, Kérastase has five different collections to suit any hair needs: Nutritive for dry hair, Resistance for damaged hair, Discipline for frizzy hair, Reflection for color-treated hair, and Densifique for fine hair. And if you really want to see a transformation, head back to the salon once a month for a follow-up treatment. Not only will you see results the second you leave the salon (I got compliments on my hair all through the next day!), but you'll also see long-lasting results with regular visits.
