Last week, YouTube sensation Kelly Strack came into Influenster HQ for some serious beauty talk. This week, we’re featuring her as an InfluenSTAR! With almost ten million views on YouTube, 53,000 followers on Instagram, AND her own curated custom lip bundle, this InfluenSTAR is certainly on the rise. Keep scrolling to learn how Kelly got to where she is today!
How did you get started? Did you set out to grow your Instagram following or did it come more naturally?
"I discovered the YouTube beauty community my freshman year of college and instantly became OBSESSED. I had always loved makeup and had now discovered a whole community based around it. After watching my favorite "beauty gurus" for about a year, I decided I wanted to try and make videos myself! Using the webcam on my laptop and natural lighting in my dorm room, I uploaded my first video. Around the same time, I started my Instagram and just posted pictures a typical college student would post, but as my YouTube channel grew, so did my following on Instagram, so it is now more geared towards beauty and fashion."
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own blog?
"Don't give up! Getting noticed nowadays is hard since there are so many people creating awesome content on social media. If you stay true to yourself and consistently create content that you're proud of, the following will come. Don't throw in the towel if you don't reach 100,000 subscribers (or 10,000 or 1,000!) in your first year, keep going!"
You're stranded on a deserted island (with WiFi, thank goodness!) and can only use ONE form of social media—what would be it? Why?
"Instagram! Everyone loves a nice #ootd on the beach, am I right?!"
What are some products you LOVE that you've discovered through social media / people you follow?
"Over the years, YouTube and Instagram have made me buy so many products, both good and bad. Some of the best products I have discovered through social media are Ofra's Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick (my fav!), Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, and Benefit's Hoola Bronzer (my holy grail to contour with!)."
Where do you look for inspiration? Any accounts you're crushing on right now?
"I find most of my inspiration from other social media influencers and celebrities from time to time as well! Some of my favorite social media accounts right now are Desi Perkins, Amanda Ensing, MakeupShayla and Nicol Concilio."
