Take a look in your makeup bag and in your cabinets. How long have you had your mascara? What about your bronzer and nail polish? Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and technically there is an expiration date on your products!

Here's our guide to keeping your makeup bag fresh year round!

It’s not just your makeup bag that needs a little cleaning out, your brushes need some love too. Chances are you use your brushes almost every day and it's important to keep them clean in order to keep your skin free from bacteria which leads to clogged pores and breakouts! Cleaning your brushes regularly also removes old excess makeup, dead skin cells, dirt and oils. You should be cleaning your brushes about once a week!

Here are two different and effective ways to clean your brushes:

Cleaning With Oil

Oil is something that can be used to clean your brushes naturally and you usually have some type of oil in your kitchen! The best oils to use for cleaning a brush are either Almond Oil or Olive Oil. Oil is best for brushes that are covered in makeup, such as your gel liner or a lipstick brush!

What You'll Need:

+Paper Towel

+Olive Oil or Almond Oil

+Unscented Pure White Soap

How to Do It:

1. Use a clean paper towel and add a small amount of olive oil to it (we don't want to soak the brush in oil).

2. Swirl the dry brush around in the oiled paper towel to break down the makeup!

3. Wash brush off in lukewarm water with an unscented pure white soap.

4. Lay the brush out to dry for about 7 hours.

Cleaning With Shampoo

Shampooing works for every brush in your makeup bag. From bronzer to eyeshadow brushes, this tip has got you covered!

What You'll Need:

+1 Shallow Bowl

+Gentle Clarifying Shampoo or Baby Shampoo

+A Lint Free Cloth

How to  Do It:

1. Run your brushes under lukewarm water, rinsing out all the leftover makeup.

2. Fill the shallow bowl with lukewarm water and add a small about of shampoo.

3. Gently swirl your brush tip in the water. It helps if you swirl the brush in the palm of your hand to work up a lather and get a deeper clean.

4. Rinse the brush tip under running water once again and keep repeating until the water runs clear and clean from the brush.

5. Use a dry cloth to wipe your brush clean and make sure to reshape the bristles.

6. Lay your brushes flat on a cloth to dry for about 7 hours!
