Friday Fives: A Rock-and-Ice Climber’s Must-Haves

Meet Kat Carney, a Kansas-turned-San Diego native and dubbed one of Outdoor’s “Coolest Outdoor Women on Instagram." Not only has she hitchhiked from Alaska to the Bay area, but she also wields some serious talent behind the lens of her camera. A talented outdoor photographer, Kat has been lucky enough to call a variety of landscapes home, including the alpine tundra of Alaska to the Mediterranean coast of Spain. You can follow her amazing adventures on her Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or website. Currently a resident of sunny San Diego, Kat spends her days photographing the sun, surf, and other outdoor adventures.

1. BullFrog Water Armor Sport Quik Gel Sunscreen, SPF 50

“I have fair skin, so getting severely sunburned one day can ruin the next week or two for me. I love BullFrog because it stays on forever, and the gel rubs in really fast, so even if I'm in and out of water or carrying a backpack, I have strong protection.”

2. Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Pure-Castile Liquid Soap

“This soap is biodegradable and can be used as body wash, shampoo, and even dish soap. As long as I bury the waste water away from a water source, it breaks down in about six months.”

3. Tom's of Maine Organic Moisturizing Lip Balm

“I use lip balm often, and I love the way this tastes and smells.”

4. Covergirl Professional All-In-One Mascara

“If I am trying to look nice for an event or meeting, mascara is really the only makeup I use regularly. I like this Covergirl version because it doesn't smudge, and it's quick and easy to use.”

5. Kiss My Face Whenever Conditioner

Kat loves eco friendly products! She raves over this “biodegradable conditioner that actually detangles my hair and leaves it soft and silky.”
