Welcome to our new series, InstaTrend where we break down the beauty trends burning up your Instagram feed. First up, metallic lips. They’re everywhere. We scrolled through the Insta-sphere and found a slew of striking, silvery reflective looks. It may sound intimidating, but you can make the metallic look as subtle or vibrant as you like.
How to wear it: This fun, frosted look is a nice break from the matte lipsticks we love. To keep the look wearable, pair it with soft, subtle eye makeup. Also, exfoliate and moisturize your lips first for perfect application. These vibrant hues tend to highlight every crease and wrinkle on your lips so the smoother the better.
When to wear it: This look is bold and probably won't be your go-to for day wear, but there’s always room to spice up your beauty routine when the sun goes down. Festivals, special occasions, nights out on the town—they’re all perfect opportunities to rock this fun look.
Ahead is a little Insta-spiration to get you psyched to shine on your own time:
The newest shade, ‘Majesty,’ from King Kylie’s metal matte collection is a black metallic matte with blue undertones.
This Sigma Insta post features the Stamina Power Stick for a royal purple affair. It’s incredibly pigmented and has a nice, satin finish.
A more subtle approach to the metallic lip, MAC’s ‘Blankety’ lipstick offers a glossy finish for nude lips.
Insta-Tip: One thing all of these posts have in common? Matte face and eye makeup. The key to playing up your lips is to keep the rest of your face fresh and shine-free to avoid an overload of face shimmer.

A video of makeup artist Ashley Rosales applying metallic lip gloss has gone viral:
The Woman’s World shared this video of makeup artist Ashley Rosales applying metallic lipstick and it’s gone completely viral, with more than a million views! In the video, Rosales dips an Artis lip brush into each color before glossing her lips. It’s pretty addicting to watch.
