We’ve all had our fair share of ramen in college, but did you ever dream the food would turn into an ice cream accessory? If you’re not up to speed on your dessert trends, ice cream ramen is officially the most talked about frozen sweet on the ‘Gram thanks to NYC-based Japanese restaurant, The Dessert Kitchen. The shop has pioneered the culinary concoction and we’re breaking down exactly what it really is.
The scoop: The noodles aren’t technically ramen–they’re kanten, traditional Japanese jelly noodles made from algae. The jelly-like noodles are slightly sweet since they’re made from agar powder, water, and sugar. To make it an extra delicious and Instagrammable dessert, the see-through blue noodles are served on top of a bowl of crushed ice, cantaloupe, mochi, and mango, covered with evaporated milk, and a side of white peach syrup–yum!
