Ingredient Breakdown: Tea Tree Oil
Meet your new BFF.
In order to ensure you're getting the most out of your skincare products, we're breaking down some of the most common—and some not so common—ingredients found in skincare products. In the past we've decoded niacinamides, copper, caffeine, charcoal, and blue tansy. Up next, an ingredient that's so common, you probably already use it.
The ingredient: tea tree oil
Also known as: a natural acne-fighter
Claims to fame: Antimicrobial tea tree oil is a fantastic natural alternative to chemical acne fighters like benzoyl peroxide. The oil that comes from tea trees is ideal for fighting bacteria (A.K.A. what causes acne). Tea tree oil is able to deeply penetrate the skin and unclog pores and dry out excess oil. It's suitable for sensitive skin as it's natural and cleanses, exfoliates, and tones all in one one step. (No harsh chemicals or abrasives here!) It's also has antiseptic and antifungal properties, making it suitable for cleansing everything from your gums to your scalp!
Where to find it:
