Makeup routines, even for the most beauty-obsessed, have become a little laxed as of late. With Zoom calls and Skype dates taking the place of in-office meetings and intimate dinners, it’s easy to see why. Sure, it’s been nice to let our skin breathe and embrace a more natural look, but we figured it was time to bring a bit of beauty back to the forefront!

On this week’s live we revealed a few launches of favorite makeup staples: three mascaras, a tinted moisturizer, a lightweight foundation, and a makeup palette fit for icons of the small—or computer—screen. We focused on the eyes and face, which are perfect areas to draw attention to while wearing a face mask or social distancing. Let’s dig in:

First up was Urban Decay Lash Freak. This formula can boost lash volume for a dramatic effect and won’t flake or smudge for up to twenty hours. And its asymmetrical brush sets it apart from the mascara masses.

Next up, we tried the Pat McGrath Dark Star Mascara which was recently featured in our Pat McGrath VoxBox. Its gel-like formula was designed to go on in just one swipe. Dark Star does it all by boosting volume, length, curl and lift—plus it’s free of clumps.

Finally, we shared Hourglass’ Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara. This mascara’s wand had fuller bristles compared to the others and is meant to boost length and not flake. And it’s cruelty free.

After a live vote from viewers, Jess K, our lovely host, tried the Hourglass Mascara on her left eye and Pat McGrath Mascara on her right. The consensus was that both looked great, but viewers were super impressed with the results Jess got with just one swipe of Dark Star.

Foundation and Tinted Moisturizer

Jess debuted both the Armani NeoNude light cover foundation and Cover FX Luminous Tinted Moisturizer. Both formulas seemed like great options for summer's humidity and heat.

The Armani NeoNude provided the perfect no-makeup makeup look. The formula was silky smooth and while it felt like a skin care product, thanks to the added hyaluronic acid, it had notable, buildable coverage. Jess tested three shades—cool, warm and neutral—and shared how best to find your match. If you’re shopping online—like most of us these days!— steps one and two are for you:

  • Step 1: Determine if the veins in your wrists are more blue-green or purple.
  • Step 2: Consider if you prefer silver or gold jewelry on your skin tone.
  • Step 3: Instead of testing a shade on your wrist or hand, test foundation on your jawline, under your ear.

If your veins are more blue-green, and you prefer silver on your skin tone, you are likely a cool tone. If your veins seem more purple, and gold suits you better, your skin is considered warm. If you think you’re a bit of both, your skin tone is most likely neutral.

Cover FX Luminous Tinted Moisturizer produced a glowy, dewy complexion that felt plump to the touch. While it’s coverage was more sheer compared to the Armani NeoNude, it did even out the appearance of Jess’ skin.

Makeup Palette

The Besame Cosmetics I Love Lucy Collection was the final makeup product shared—and was it a show closer! This brand is known to favor creative collaborations and chose to feature the iconic Lucille Ball with this palette. The retro themed colors paid homage to the classic I Love Lucy series, with eyeshadow shades named Tropicana Taupe, Lucy Lilac, and Ricardo Rosé. Not only was the packaging beautiful, but the shimmery shades looked both sophisticated and luxurious.

Which products will you be adding to your cart? We want to know, tell us in the comments!
