Influenster Awards 2020: Spotlight on Notable Black Founded Beauty Brands
Our sixth annual Influenster Reviewers’ Choice Awards winners were announced yesterday, and we’re thrilled to celebrate these amazing brands. This summer our Influenster community raised their voices and let us know that supporting businesses owned, founded, and operated by BIPOC was important to them. So this year, we’re pleased to announce these 10 Black Founded Beauty Brands that have our community buzzing.
Meet our winners, and the founders behind the brands.
Briogeo- This Influenster favorite hair care brand has also won multiple other Influenster Reviewers’ Choice awards this year, and in years past. Founder and CEO Nancy Twine prioritizes natural ingredients in the full line of products.
Juvia’s Place- This makeup brand, founded by Chichi Eburu, is beloved for their bold use of color that is inspired by and a celebration of African queens, rulers and rebels. Their highly pigmented palettes are world famous, but don’t forget to check out their lip and face products as well.
Nyakio- Founded by Nyakio Grieco, this skincare brand uses family secrets to create prestige, clean products. Check out our interview with Nyakio here!
Mented Cosmetics - Mented’s slogan? “Pigment is our passion”. Founded by KJ Miller and Amanda Johnson this brand carries an extremely inclusive range of shades so that everyone can find their perfect nude hue.
The Lip Bar - You might have seen the founder of this vegan lipstick brand, Melissa Butler, on Shark Tank. The Lip Bar is here to make makeup easier for everyone, and you can view product recommendations based on your complexion.
Uoma Beauty - Sharon Chuter founded this brand with the intention of having one of the most inclusive shade ranges. They have fifty one shades in all of their foundation formulas, so everyone can find their perfect formula.
The Beauty Bakerie - In addition to some of the cutest packaging there is (we’re partial to the “Do it for the ‘Graham” graham cracker inspired palette!), these products are long lasting, fun to use, and smudge proof. Founder Cashmere Nicole believes in being “better not bitter” and that sweetness carries across through the whole product line.
Lauren Napier Beauty - In addition to being the most glamorous makeup wipes we’ve ever seen, founder Lauren Napier has created wipes that are customized for your skin type. These products are manufactured using solar energy, and the wipes also refresh and prep your skin for makeup!
Miss Jessie’s - Sisters Titi and Miko Branch named this brand that is now a go-to for all kinds of curly hair after their grandmother. Her at home formulas were the inspiration for these products that thousands of people have sworn by since 2004.
KNC Beauty - Their lip and eye masks are popular on Influenster and all over instagram! Founder Kristen Noel Crawley recently launched online programming to empower Black female entrepreneurs to start and grow their own businesses.
Please congratulate these exciting brands with us, and let us know which product you’re going to try (and review!) first.
