Apple’s newest operating system, iOS 8 is set for release this fall. It’s already in its beta stages and needless to say, we are excited. The new iOS is compatible with iPhone 4S onward and iPad 2 onward, so it might be time to think about getting a new device if you want to check it out. Here are some of the new features that we’re most looking forward to.

iCloud is Much Improved

The iCloud is being integrated into apps so that it will be easier to store your data with just the flip of a switch. The iCloud is still limited to just 5g for free, but it now has support for more types of documents and data to make it more competitive with services like Google Drive and Dropbox.

New Health App

The update will be great for fitness enthusiasts as it will allow the iPhone to seamlessly track statistics like steps taken and distance covered. Maybe even more importantly, the new Health app will put all of a user’s health data like calories burned, blood sugar, sleep statistics, and more, in one convenient location.

Family Sharing

All purchases from iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store are shareable between up to six people as long as they were purchased with the same credit card. Parental controls will also make it easy for parents to monitor what apps their kids are downloading and even give permission remotely.

Smart Keyboard

Apple is touting the iOS keyboard as their smartest ever with predictive texting and the ability to learn your contacts’ names. They’re also opening up the keyboard to developer extensions so you can customize it to suit you better!

Better Messaging Options

The new OS will make group messaging better than ever with new features like the ability to add and drop specific users and easier location sharing. Voice and video messages are now much easier to include in group messaging and the option to have them disappear in the same vein as Snapchats. Regular SMS messages are also finally getting support on iOS 8 so that you can answer regular texts on your computer or iPad even if they aren’t from Apple users.
