How to build the perfect smoothie

A frozen smoothie in the morning is an easy, quick way to get loads of nutrients.  A breakfast smoothie starts things off on a healthy note and sets the tone for the whole day. There are so many great smoothie ideas out there that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Let us break it down for you.  Here’s the Influenster guide on how to build the perfect smoothie.

First thing’s first.  Start with a great, high-powered blender that’s going to slice and dice all those delicious fruits and veggies. I love my Ninja Professional Blender -- the single-serve cups make it easy to take my smoothies on the go. (Which is great, because I’m usually running late!)

Build your smoothie:  

Here’s the breakdown:

Fruit:  Frozen is best, because it’ll give your smoothie that icy, shake-like quality without getting watered down. Look for fruits packed with vitamins and fiber. Think:strawberries, blueberries, peaches, pineapple, mango, kiwi, apples, bananas.

Veggies:  Eat your vegetables!  Think: sweet potatoes, beets, and carrots are all loaded with vitamins and pair well with fruits to balance out flavors.  

Leafy Greens:  Choose options high in vitamins to get your day started right.  Think: kale, spinach, collards, and swiss chard.

Liquid: This will help everything mix together, as well as keep you hydrated.  Think: water, fresh-squeezed juice, almond milk, coconut water, soy milk, plain yogurt.

Sweeten: Skip the sugar in favor of natural sweeteners.  Think: shredded coconut, honey, agave, or even maple syrup!

Blend and enjoy!
