Healthy Indulgence: Sweet Treats With a Healthy Twist

Let's face it no matter how healthy we are eating (or trying to eat) we still find ourselves scrolling through food porn on Instagram or pinning dozens of desserts on Pinterest . We found three deliciously decadent desserts for you to whip up to help curb those cravings and cut back on the calories!

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Avocado Pudding

Don’t be skeptical about putting an avocado into your dessert. We promise it tastes delicious! This recipe is packed with benefits from healthy fats, fiber and vitamin B6 to antioxidants and protein! This recipe is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth!

What You’ll Need:

· 1 1/2 ripe avocados

· 1 large ripe banana

· 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder

· 1/2 cup salted creamy or crunchy peanut butter + more for topping

· 1/2 cup agave we prefer Nature's Agave Premium Blue Agave Nectar

· 1/4 cup almond milk or other non-dairy milk

· Whipped cream for topping (optional but recommended)

How to Do It:

1. Add all ingredients except whip into a food processor and blend until creamy and smooth.

2. Add more dairy-free milk to thin/help blend. Add more cocoa powder for a richer chocolate flavor. Add more sweetener of choice to enhance sweetness.

3. Divide between 6 small serving glasses, cover with plastic wrap (pressing the plastic wrap down on the pudding to prevent a skin from forming) and chill for a few hours, or overnight.

4. Before serving, top with whipped cream and drizzle of salted peanut butter.

5. Leftovers will keep in the fridge up to a few days, though best when fresh.

Apple Pie Trifle from Dashing Dish

Sometimes we crave the sweetest things in life and they aren’t always as healthy as we would like! Here is a quick recipe that puts a twist on classic apple pie that’s just as delicious, but a lot more healthy!

What You’ll Need:

· 5 Large Apples; cored, peeled and cut into wedges

· ½ cup agave

· ½ cup water

· ½ teaspoon cinnamon

· ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

· Pinch salt

· 1 8oz container Tru Whip

· Crushed gingersnaps, granola, chopped pecans or almonds.

We love Purly Elizabeth Ancient Grain Granola!

How to Do It:

1. To make individual trifles, grab 4 clear glasses or cups. To make one big trifle, grab a medium glass bowl or trifle bowl. We like the idea of using a cute Mason Jar to serve our trifles!

2. Add apples (peeled and diced), agave, water, and spices to a medium non-stick skillet sprayed with cooking spray.

3. Cook over medium heat, and simmer for about 5 minutes or until apples are tender and sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.

4. Turn off heat and let cool, (important: let apples cool completely before layering trifle, or they will melt the whipped topping)

5. Layer apples, crust/cookie layer and whipped topping, preferably ending with the whipped topping. Top with cinnamon and low sugar syrup, honey, or my clean eating caramel sauce if desired! Store in the fridge until ready to serve.

6. Devour!


Skinny Muddy Buddies from The Recipe Critic

Some of us know this sweet treat at muddy buddies and some of us know it as the popular “puppy-chow”, either way we can all agree how addictively delicious this dessert is! We found a healthier version of one of our favorite snacks growing up and it's just as delectable!

What you’ll need:

2 cups Fiber One Honey Squares

2 Tbsp I Can’t Believe It's Not Butter

2 Tbsp Creamy All Natural Peanut Butter

1 Package Fat Free Sugar Free Vanilla Pudding

2 Squares Sugar Free Chocolate Almond Bark

2 Tbsp Powdered sugar (optional)

How to Do It:

1. Melt the butter, Natural Creamy Peanut Butter, and Chocolate Almond Bark in saucepan on low heat being careful not to overcook.

2. After melted, pour mixture over the Fiber One Honey Squares

3. Let the mixture cool for about 20 minutes.

4. After the mixture has hardened pour it into a large ziplock bag, and add the box of pudding mix and shake gently. (This is where I add the extra 2 Tbsp of powdered sugar to the bag)
