In the world of skincare, AHA, BHA, and PHA are some of the most delightful terms you can spot on a product's ingredient list, as these chemical exfoliating powerhouses can work wonders on skin. And unlike their physical exfoliating brethren, which only tackle skin's outer-most surface, these babies get down to the heart of the matter by sloughing away dead skin cells, unclogging pores, and taking on deep-rooted inflammations. So when you put these three chemicals together, you've got the recipe for something special. In other words, you've got the cocktail of ingredients in Glossier's new Solution.
Solution is the latest launch from the millennial skincare brand, and it's already generating quite the buzz in the beauty world. Of course, it packs that Insta-worthy packaging punch. (Glossier would never let us down in this department.) But it's also pretty powerful in the ingredients department—which is where things matters most. Solution is the brand's first acne-specific skincare launch and is applied post cleansing and pre-moisturizing. (Think toner time.) But what really caught our attention was that blend of ingredients that actually tackle long-term texture-refining needs.
Specifically we're talking about those chemical exfoliants again. First up to bat are two stellar AHAs (a.k.a. alpha hydroxy acid): lactic acid to take on acne and dark spots and glycolic acid to brighten and improve skin's texture. Then there's the all-too familiar BHA (a.k.a. beta hydroxy acid)—salicylic acid. Sal acid is commonly found in acne products thanks to it's ability to loosen up that oil that clogs pores and reduce acne redness caused by inflammation. And to round out the team, there's gluconolactone. This PHA (polyhydroxy acid—see a theme, here?) is a chemical exfoliant you might not always see, but it's a good one for strengthening and conditioning skin while still digging deep and exfoliating nonetheless.
But that's not quite all Solution tossed into the mix. To balance out the aggression of the acids (don't be fooled, acids are aggressive—but in a good way!), there's aloe, glycerin, and niacinamide. (We broke down exactly what niacinamide does and why it's so awesome here, but in case you need a refresher here's the one-sentence scoop: niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 and is essential in creating a strong skin barrier, which in turn helps protect against pollution, aggressors, and other external factors. Whew.)
Now that you know the details, you can test out this acne-fighter yourself. Solution is officially out now at glossier.com for $24 if you're up for the challenge!
