The 2020 Billboard Music Awards took place on October 14, and were comprised of audience-less presentations and remote live performances. We have the inside scoop on how singer Lizzo, who won "Top Song Sales Artist," got her makeup and hair ready for the big awards show. In addition to her nail art and dress that both featured the word "VOTE" in white over black, Lizzo also used her acceptance speech to hammer her message home, saying:

"Let me tell y'all something. When people try to suppress something it's normally because that thing holds power. They're afraid of your power. There's power in who you are. There's power in your voice. So whether it's through music or protest or your right to vote, use your power, use your voice, and refuse to be suppressed."

Celebrity Hairstylist Shelby Swain created a long and luxe ponytail for Lizzo that was both sleek and bouncy.

“Lizzo wanted to do something sleek to fit with the dress as the dress was such a big statement so we went with a snatched pony. It was a Naomi Campbell moment.”

- Shelby Swain

Shelby started by washing Lizzo's hair with an amplified textures shampoo and conditioner and drying it with the ghd helios™ professional hair dryer. Next, she sculpted the hair into a ponytail, and, once secured, straightened it using the ghd platinum+ styler. To finish the look, Shelby used the ghd curve soft curl iron to create bouncy waves for
a luxe ponytail.

Makeup Artist Alexx Mayo used BECCA products to give Lizzo her glowy look. He started with Backlight Priming Filter to create a smooth canvas. He then layered Ultimate Coverage 24-Hour Foundation in Cardamom and Coconut over Lizzo's face and neck to even out the skin tone. To prep her eyes for a flawless finish, he dabbed a mix of Ultimate Coverage Longwear Concealer in the shades Almond, Golden and Cedar under the eyes for a moisturizing, long-lasting base. He then set her face using the Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder in Golden Bronze. For added warmth and dimension, Alexx swept Sunlit Bronzer in Maui Nights over Lizzo's skin. For a subtle flush, he added Mineral Blush in Lantana across the apples of her cheeks and around her temples. As a last step, he applied the BECCA x Barbie Ferreira Prismatica Face Palette using the shades Prismify and Glimmer.

For the eyes, Alexx opted for Light Gleam Primer and Topper Liquid Eyeshadow in Red Star to create a winged shape and shimmer top over the lids. He then used Prismify from the BECCA x Barbie Ferreira Prismatica Face Palette to make the center of the lid pop even more.

To finish off the look, Alexx layered a few coats of Ultimate Lipstick Love in shade Dune. He lined Lizzo’s lips using the Ultimate Lip Definer in shade Chill, and gave them an extra glow with BECCA Zero No Pigment Glass Highlighter For Face+Lip.
