This year's Emmy Awards reflected the times with no live audience, nominees watching via video conferencing methods, and the winners accepting their prizes via "exploding" boxes delivered in advance or live from interns in tuxedo hazmat suits.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the night took on a more casual and adventurous tone than previous years with some celebs joining in from home and others from remote watch parties. The cast and crew of Emmy-nominated “Insecure” took over SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California where the HBO comedy series is set. Issa Rae, who co-created and stars in "Insecure," was nominated for lead actress in a comedy, and while she didn't bring home the gold, she definitely came out on top with regards to her look.

Hair by Felicia Leatherwood, nails by Eri Ishizu, and makeup by Joanna Simkin gave Issa Rae a shimmery, bold look to complement her orange Sergio Hudson dress, accented with Forevermark jewelry. If you're looking to recreate Rae's look, we have the inside scoop from her MUA Joanna Simkin. Read on to see what she used!

“Issa’s Sergio Hudson dress was a beautiful shade of orange and the inspiration was California sunsets.”

– Joanna Simkin

Once Issa’s skin was prepped, MUA Joanna Simkin applied Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation in 10 to the center of Issa’s face and 13 around the outer contours to create depth. She then dotted Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Concealer in 10 under her eyes and wherever needed. To warm up the skin, she applied Armani Beauty Neo Nude A-Blush in 50 to the apples of the cheeks. Then, Joanna dusted Armani Beauty Neo Nude Fusion Powder in 14 along the cheekbones and nose, bringing a bronzed look to the skin. For the finishing touch, she blended Armani Beauty Fluid Sheer in 10 on the high points of the face for a subtle highlight.

For the eyes, Joanna first prepped Issa’s lids with Armani Beauty Eye Tint in 27. Next, she used the Armani Beauty Eyes to Kill Quattro Palette in 8 to create her sunset-inspired eye, using the lighter shimmery shades in the center and the darker shades in the crease and outer corners. Then, she lined her eyes with the Armani Beauty Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in 5, smudging the pencil to create a wing. Once her lids were lined, Joanna applied the Eylure Marquise Lashes, for a full and fluffy finish, with longer lashes in the center to make the eyes look wider.

To give Issa’s warm fall glow the perfect finish, Joanna topped Issa’s lips with Armani Beauty Lip Maestro in 200.
