Get Ready: Spring 2015 Beauty Trends
Ready to ditch that coat in favor of some sunny weather? So are we. But what we probably love more than the sunnier weather is the influx of new spring trends that comes with it. Here's a little taste of what to expect this spring!
BOLD, GRAPHIC EYELINER
Have you mastered your cat eye yet? Because it's not going anywhere, at least not anytime soon. This classic beauty staple showed up on the Marc by Marc Jacobs, DKNY, and SUNO runways during New York Fashion Week with a twist this time around — thick, sharp shapes and bright colors rather than the usual dark feline flick. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran of the cat eye or you’re still trying to figure out how to get those two flicks at the same angle, there’s plenty of ways you can jump on the trend this spring:
NEGATIVE SPACE NAILS
Though you've probably noticed this funky geometric nail art popping up on your Pinterest board for a while, negative space manis made major appearances on the runway during NYFW — so we’re sure we’ll be seeing more of it this spring. (We especially loved the mint green half-moons at the Charlotte Ronson show!)
Sure, it looks complicated, but it’s only a small step up from your usual brush-on-and-go polish routine. All you’ll need is some Scotch tape and nail polish — just cut the tape into strips, chevrons, or whatever shape suits your fancy, apply it to your nails, and paint your polish directly over the tape. Be sure to remove the tape carefully before the polish dries -- you’ll want the lines to be clean and deliberate, or else they might just look chipped. Wait for it to dry, apply a top coat, and you’re good to go!
TOUSLED, UNDONE HAIR
For fans of lazy-girl beauty, this spring trend is for you. Messy hair, loose braids, and tousled ponytails were hugely featured on the NYFW runways this time around — and they’re definitely not difficult looks to achieve. The key to this look is a handy salt spray to maintain a good texture, dry shampoo to encourage a little volume, and some time to air dry your hair (or, if you’re not a fan of air-drying, a curling iron/straightener to create some loose curls). To get started, try these out:
CLASSIC RED LIPS
This trend returns every season for a good reason: it never fails to make you look really, really good. Channel your inner Taylor Swift with a swipe of crimson on your lips, using a neutral or similarly-colored lip liner beforehand to ensure a perfect shape. Try these shades on for size:
SMOKEY PURPLE EYESHADOW
Don’t worry, this isn’t a revival of neon eyeshadows from the ‘80s — instead, we’re talking about the smokier lavender hue that was seen on the runway of the Vera Wang show. It’s especially a great addition to your spring beauty routine if you’re already a fan of the daytime smokey eye! Try out a smokey lavender eye with some of these shades:
