The Hair Trend NYFW is Convincing Us to Recreate
Believe it or not, a post-pool mane is officially on the radar for spring 2017. Thanks to the glam squads backstage at Jill Stewart's Spring 2017 show, we're pinning yet another hairstyle to our Pinterest boards. To re-create the look for ourselves, we picked legendary hair stylist Didier Malige's brain on exactly how to replicate the look. Spoiler: It's almost too easy. Read ahead for the inside scoop and the exact products being used backstage!
The scoop: “It’s a bit like she’s been swimming and then let her hair dry,” Malige said. “We like her to be not wet, but not crispy dry.” This "coming-out-of-the-water" look is meant to add texture and individuality to a feminine and elegant collection of cotton candy-esque pastels.
The strategy: There isn’t one! Malige said it’s better not to think too much about it when you’re applying products. There’s no particular order, but rather every product has its unique trait to contribute to the overall post-pool look.
Who can re-create this look: Anyone! We saw just about every hair type backstage. Although some products work differently than others, it doesn't matter if the natural hair is tousled and curly or sleek and straight. The goal is just to relax the natural hair you're born with.
The styling products used backstage:
Infused with sweet almond oil and lotus flowers, the hairstylists backstage used this spray to prevent the models' hair from looking dry. Plus, it's SPF formula doubles as a sun-protecting spray and shine enhancer!
The Huile Soyeuse Treatment Oil instantly absorbs into the hair to deliver serious moisture.
To detangle and soften hair: PHYTO Phytokeratine Repairing Thermal Protectant Spray, $32 at Sephora
This all-in-one thermal protectant hair spray works to detangle and soften hair, all while guarding against the damage of hot hair tools.
This protective oil is designed to prevent the hair from getting a crunchy chlorine-like feel. The hairstylists liked to use this as a soft texture boost.
Infused with seven different plant extracts, this light-weight leave-in conditioner instantly hydrates, smoothes, and protects hair while preventing frizz and split ends. It adds a bit of beachy texture and shine to the locks.
