How to Celebrate Valentine's Day With the Entire Family
Who needs an S.O. anyway?
Valentine’s Day may have a reputation for being a lovey-dovey holiday for couples. However, it’s a holiday about showing your loved ones how much you care about them—and your list of loved ones probably goes way beyond your S.O. It might include family, friends (hello, Galentine’s Day), relatives, and even your four-legged companions.
If you’re looking to celebrate V-Day with all of those near and dear to your heart, here are some easy ways to do it:
1. Make your own valentines.
Get crafty! Do you have little ones that want to get in on the Valentine’s Day fun? Grab your crayons and your craft box and make some DIY Valentine’s Day cards.
2. Bake some seasonal goodies.
Remember that old saying about how the key to a person’s heart is in their stomach? Therefore, there’s no better way to please your friends and fam than by whipping up some delicious treats. Give your bakes a V-Day twist by using heart-shaped cutters and decorating them with red and pink icing.
3. Have a chocolate fondue.
It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without some chocolate. Take things a step further than the classic chocolate box with a chocolate fondue set. People of all ages will love dipping strawberries and marshmallows into it.
4. Have a movie marathon.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day with the girls? Or are all of your relatives coming over? Stock up on your favorite romantic comedies (or slasher films!) and enjoy them all on the 14th of February. Don’t forget the popcorn.
5. Make your own bouquets.
If you’re doing an adults only activity, you can pick up an assortment of fresh flowers for it. If you’re doing the activity with the whole family, you can create your bouquets with paper and pipe cleaners and glitter.
6. Go on a group walk.
Is walking the dog normally seen as a chore in your household? Turn it into a fun activity by making it a group affair. Fido will love it even more if you bring along a toy to play fetch with.
7. Have a karaoke party.
Who doesn’t love a bit of karaoke? Grab a karaoke machine and have your friends and family pick their favorite tunes. It’s up to you if you want to give the evening a love song theme.
8. Write your own love poems.
You don’t need to save your creativity for “The One.” Get a group together and try your hand at creating your own love poems or even songs. Make it even more fun by having art supplies and glitter on hand to decorate the papers with.
9. Have a chocolate party.
Yes, you read that right. If you’re worried about fondue being too messy for the little ones, create your own chocolate buffet with different chocolates bars, cookies, and mixes. Just try to get some before your guests eat it all.
10. Indulge in a potluck.
Potlucks are an old standby at holidays for a reason. Give your event a Valentine’s Day theme by having each person make a dish that they love. Set the table with heart napkins and heart plates to really drive the theme home.
