Although we're complete and utter suckers for sheet masks (our entire editorial team indulged in a field trip to a local K-beauty boutique to stock up last week!), often times we find ourselves stuck with a bit extra product on our hands and faces, and necks). To figure out how to get the most bang for our skincare-loving buck, we decided to chat with skin expert and founder of Peach and Lily, Alicia Yoon, to get her five best tips for utilizing excess product. Read on to see how to use the extra product leftover from your sheet mask.
1. Create a "sandwich"
This fun trick gives you a double dose of serum and a serious glow. After placing your mask on and letting it dry partially, lift up the mask and rub in the excess serum from the packaging to get your first dose of serum. Then, once the layer has soaked in (with clean hands!) reapply the mask and let more sink in. "I call this 'sheet mask sandwiching,'" says Alicia.
2. Use it everywhere
Put that silky serum to good use. Apply the serum all over neck, chest, back of hands, heels—anywhere that needs some extra loving!
3. Mix it up
Mix that excess treatment in with your favorite moisturizer. This will seal it in and incorporate your sheet mask ingredients into your last skincare step. "[It] depends on the moisturizer, but most mix well with the serum and feels like a slightly more essence-y moisturizer, which I like especially in the winter!" says Alicia.
4. Strobe it out
"If you ever mask in the morning or before you're headed out somewhere, you can put on your makeup and dab tiny amounts of essence over makeup and it creates a nice strobing effect," says Alicia. Her pro tip: just the tiniest amount works here as the essence in the sheet mask will usually sit well over the makeup to create a very natural glow.
5. Sharing is caring
If you can tell immediately after opening that your mask is super saturated, don't be afraid to share! Alicia recommends applying some excess product on these dry cotton sheet masks to create a twin mask!
Have we convinced you to save your serum yet? Although we're all about utilizing all of your beauty product to the last drop, safety is key. "All that said, to keep things safe, don't try to put the serum in a baggie or save it for later," says Alicia. "Most sheet masks will indicate that everything should be used immediately upon opening." Bottom line: It's totally fine to use the product during that sheet mask session but don't try to keep it too long.
