Easy Ways to Help Fight the Flu

Snow isn't the only thing in the air.

Flu season has arrived and we're taking every precaution to avoid it! Three days stuck in bed watching Netflix may sound like a dream but the nausea, fever, and chills that come along with the flu will burst that dreamy bubble quickly! That's why we're sticking to these five easy strategies for fighting the flu virus:

1. Use the Vicks® EasyFill Cool Mist Humidifier

A 2009 study by the National Academy of Sciences found the that flu virus spread quickly in dry environments. Keeping your home at a proper humidity level can help prevent the virus from spreading and help your entire family breathe easier. Proper moisture levels make for well-lubricated sinuses and better sleep—essential elements in the fight against the flu.

The Vicks® EasyFill Cool Mist Humidifier has earned a 4.8-star rating from Influensters and is perfect for medium to large size rooms. This easy-fill humidifier can be filled two ways—either remove the tank and fill it at the sink or fill the tank at the humidifier with a pitcher. It emits a cool mist and runs for 36 hours on a full tank. To make things even easier, this humidifier automatically shuts off when empty and does not require filters.

Already feeling crummy? Try inserting two Vicks VapoPads® into the humidifier for soothing menthol vapors.

2. Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes

It may be obvious that you shouldn't touch your mouth after being out and about in public (so many germs!) but your eyes and nose are two other areas where germ can easily sneak in. Avoid rubbing your face and wash your hands as soon as you get home or into the office in the morning.

3. Sanitize your gym bag and work space

Some of the most germ-ridden spots are the ones you visit every day. The gym is full of sweaty towels and public machines and your own gym bag can easily collect flu germs if you set it down. Similarly, your keyboard and mouse at work can harbor millions of germs. Make sure to wipe everything down with cleaning wipes at least once every week.

4. Wash your hands

This one is obvious but bears repeating—washing your hands is simplest way to avoid picking up the flu virus. Be diligent and wash them before and after meals, after you've been out in public, and before you go to bed.

5. Eat up!

Studies have shown that a diet rich in protein makes for a strong immune system. Pile your plate with lean meats, eggs, dark leafy greens, and nuts to give your body the boost it needs to fight the flu.
