Mythbusters: Does Pumping Your Mascara Make Lashes Look Better?

We've been doing it all wrong.

We've learned from our mothers and our mothers' mothers the classic way to apply mascara. It's probably a similar story for most of us: you take the mascara wand and pump it in and out in hopes of grabbing more product for extra voluminous lashes.

Turns out, we were all misinformed. While many beauty lovers believe pumping the wand will load more product on the bristles, in reality, this error actually makes your mascara work less effectively.

Pumping the wand in and out vertically will make the mascara dry out faster, hence more trips to the store, more money wasted, and worse—clumpy lashes. Instead, gently roll the wand in a circular motion inside the mascara tube to pick up the desired amount. This way, the movement goes in the direction of the bristles, and you won't dry out your tube as fast! Consider this beauty myth, busted!
