Braid Bible: The Microbraided Sock Bun
If you tuned in last week, you saw how to create the milkmaid braid. This week we're channeling our inner ballerina and creating a blend of the French braid updo and twin microbraid tutorials for a final microbraided sock bun look! It's really quite easy—just a high pony with some baby braids held together with a sock bun. Scan through these step-by-step instructions on how to DIY the look yourself.
Step 1: Make sure your hair is completely brushed through to avoid any tangle trouble mid-braid.
Step 2: Throw your hair into a high ponytail (or if you would prefer a low bun, the steps are the same, just with a low ponytail to start).
Step 3: Put in your hair donut at the base of the ponytail.
Step 4: Fan the hair out from the ponytail for a lampshade effect, then begin adding traditional, three-strand microbraids throughout. It's up to you how many you want to incorporate. We did five so that the hair donut wouldn't show!
Step 5: Once the braids are done (no need to finish them off with hair ties, just let them dangle), put a hair tie over the hair donut to hold the braids in place.
Step 6: Twist the remains of your ponytail around the base of the donut/original ponytail.
Step 7: Hold the remains down with a hair tie or bobby pins if you can get it to stay in place.
Step 8: If you feel you may need it, use some hairspray to keep flyaways down.
