DIY Jewelry Storage
A few weeks ago, my dear little sister-in-law packed up to go to college. After a year or so of me begging asking her to make me one of her awesome little jewelry holders, she finally did--and I love it!! It really could not have come at a better time since the hanging storage that I used to use broke, spilling all of my jewelry everywhere and causing me to lose over half of my earrings. Sad day. The truth is, I mainly needed some place to store my necklaces and the few dangly earrings that I own--this little guy is perfect.
Making your own will only take you about 30 minutes or less, which makes it even more awesome. You can use pretty much any form that you have laying around the house, or head out to your local Habitat for Humanity Re-store or Goodwill and find a thick frame or cabinet door without the glass panels (which is what mine is made from). You could use a multi-panel picture frame and remove the glass and backing and this project should still stay under $15-20!!
Basically, all you have to do once you have found something that matches your style and the amount of jewelry you will need to hold, is buy some chicken wire. Measure the chicken wire to fit perfectly into the back of your cabinet/frame and then you can either hot glue it in, focusing on the corners and being super careful not to burn your hands, or if you have an industrial stapler lying around, you could use that!!
Once the wire is in there, you can add in some nails on the sides to hang your necklaces off of. If you wanted to make things extra pretty, you could drill dresser hardware into your framing, but I have found that the nails work perfectly and you can't really even see how "ugly" they are once all of my necklaces are hanging off of them!!
Then, you can add in a ribbon, quote, or stencil to make it match your decor and you are ready to go! These are great for hanging on your wall, or just letting it lean up against your wall (which is what I do)! A project like this is so useful and really allows you to get creative and make something that will fit the feel of your bedroom!
