DIY Green Cleaning

DIY Green Cleaning

Spring cleaning upon us, whether we like it or not. Now, if you’re like me and are a bit tired of dropping loads of money whose ingredients you can’t pronounce, why not go the eco-friendly route and make your own cleaners? You’re not only saving a ton of cash, you’ll also feel assured knowing you’re choosing natural ingredients that you recognize. Ditch the chemicals, blast your pump-up playlist and throw on your rubber gloves—it’s time to do some green cleaning!

Here’s my list of handy dandy products I keep on hand to concoct my own cleaners:

DIY cleaners

Vinegar / Ammonia / Rubbing Alcohol / Essential Oil / Cornstarch / Baking soda / Dish detergent

Here are some of my favorite DIY cleaner recipes that you must try out:

Window Cleaner

1/4 c. rubbing alcohol

1/4 c. white vinegar

1 tbsp cornstarch

2 c. warm water

Essential oil (optional)

Wood Floor Cleaner

1 cup white vinegar

1 gallon warm water

10-15 drops essential oil

Drain Cleaner

1 box baking soda

1 cup vinegar

First, flush the drain with baking soda, then follow it with vinegar. Repeat as needed!

Carpet Cleaner

1 tsp dish washing liquid

1 tbsp white vinegar

1 cup warm water

1 tsp baking soda

Carpet Deodorizer

Just baking soda!

Sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet, let sit overnight, then vacuum!

Tub/Shower Cleaner

Vinegar + water (to clean scum)

OR Baking soda + water (to clean sticky gunk)

Either way, don’t forget to add some lemon essential oil for its lovely aroma and its grease-cutting power. Then, simply scrub, sit, and rinse.

There you have it! Now you’ve got the tools (and hopefully the motivation) to get cleaning. What are some of your favorite DIY cleaners? Have any other cleaning secrets you want to share? Let us know in the comments below!
