I know what you’re thinking. “Why on earth would I want to be classified as a selfish person?” Well allow me to get a little deeper, if you don’t make yourself #1, then who will? I’ll give you a moment to let it sink in...
You have to learn to take care of yourself, learn who you are, and be comfortable around your own self before you can be a friend, mom, wife, and more for others. If you don’t like your moody self, then who else will? It helps to learn who you are as an individual. Find out what intrigues you, entertains you, relaxes you, and it will help you to become a much happier you.
Below you will find some tips in no particular order to help you discover who you are, enjoy your own company, and be a little selfish!
1. Treat Yourself to a Spa Day
It’s great to visit a professional spa, but you can also try it at home. Run a hot bath with mint scented bath salts, light candles, play low music, grab a book, and RELAX. Let your life's worries, responsibilities, and problems go. You can even make your own sugar scrub out of natural oils, mint leaves, sugar, and unscented soap. Great for unwinding after a hard day.
2. Watch a Movie No One Else Wants To
Boyfriend hate rom-coms? Girlfriends hate horror movies? Pop your favorite movie in, snuggle in your favorite night gown, order from your favorite take-out, and laugh (or cry) until you fall asleep. It’ll be a nice chance to be alone and relax. Also, it'll help you learn to release tension.
3. Travel Alone
I cannot express enough the importance of seeing what else the world has to offer outside your comfort zone. The world is beautiful, and filled with so many wonderful people, beautiful sights, and discoveries. Traveling alone will not only help you gain independence, but also help you find things you love you may have never even known existed!
4. Learn New Things
Many museums have special events that cost almost nothing to visit. It’s important to be cultured, and to learn outside the classrooms. If you are constantly learning new things you will always be progressing towards a more knowledgable, open-minded you!
5. Take Care of Your Body
Treat your body right, you only have one! Eat healthy and exercise, although it may seem like a chore to some, it leads to a happier and longer life (a small price to pay for a few morning workouts and missed desserts).
