Ladies: stop, drop everything, and grab a brush and hair tie—it's Braid Bible time! Learn how to create a hair masterpiece through our new series. We'll walk you through easy, step-by-step instructions on how to DIY a gorgeous braid. To start off, we decided to go mermaid-style for the day with a How To Fishtail.
Step 1: Make sure your hair is completely brushed through to avoid any tangle trouble mid-braid.
Step 2: Divide your hair into two equal sections. Note: TWO sections, unlike a traditional braid with three.
Step 3: Take a thin strand from one of the sections and mix it with the opposite side. Re-grip both sections (one side carrying more hair than when we started) and adjust for a neat look.
Step 4: Repeat, taking a thin strand of hair from the opposite side you started with and mixing it with the other. Now, you will have equal hair on both sides.
Step 5: Repeat the back and forth until the end of your hair is reached. Be sure to take even strands for a cohesive look.
Step 6: Finish it off. At the bottom of the braid, tie it with a hair elastic. Use these for a glam look, or try these to keep it subtle. We used Goody SlideProof Spiky Soft Touch Hair Elastics to finish with a pop of color.
Step 7: Optional step—take a few face-framing strands of hair out of the braid for a softer look. Voila! Enjoy it for the rest of the day.
