So, we talked to Stacey DeGarmo, Brand Manager at Real Techniques, about what it takes to land your dream job, how to be yourself in the workplace, and which makeup brush could change your life forever.
The best job you've ever had?
This one! I get to work on a beautiful product line that I believe in, am proud of, and want to share with the world. Who wouldn’t want that?
To prep for an interview someone should always....
Go to the brand’s website and social media pages. That’s your way of interviewing the brand first! You’d be surprised at how many candidates don’t take the time to research ahead of time. Even an hour of reading and exploring online could make you the stand-out interview, and get you the job.

What is your favorite part about your job?
First and foremost, I love working with Sam and Nic from the Pixiwoo YouTube channel – the beloved sisters behind our brand. They know beauty like no other, and are just a blast to build a brand alongside. Second, I love the variety. A day-in-the-life at Paris Presents Incorporated (our parent company) can include anything from creative to analytical projects. We write brand strategy, develop design briefs, forecast, brainstorm social content, work with retailers, and more. It’s a blast!
Any words of advice for women who want to work in the marketing or beauty industry?
Pursue the role you want, and be willing to work hard. Sometimes people do one but not the other. Don’t give up quickly if getting what you want takes time – even years! And, don’t settle if you’re not where you want to be yet – keep going after that next role. Dedication and perseverance cannot be overrated.
How do you handle setbacks - whether it be a missed opportunity, something not turning out your way, or disagreeing with a co-worker?
Whenever it’s been a long or challenging day at the office, we remind ourselves that life is about people, not products. It’s such helpful perspective.
What's the most valuable lesson you've learned while working?
Well, this may sound almost too obvious, but it’s been an important lesson for me in terms of enjoying what I do. I’ve learned to really be myself at work. When I first started in the corporate world, I felt a need to be highly professional at all times. Don’t get me wrong: I believe in professionalism and think it’s extremely important. But, you can still be yourself and let loose a bit in this industry – believe me, you’ll be happier. Hugs over handshakes.
