Behind the Brand: Brand Manager at Not Your Mother's
Ever wonder WHO the faces are behind the amazing haircare brands you know and love? Well, now's your chance to meet them! In this Influenster series Behind the Brand, we'll sit down and chat with some of the amazing women who keep our favorite companies going. These amazing women are the brains behind the scenes who bring products and services from concept straight to the shelves.
So, we sat down to chat with Brittany Padley, Brand Manager for one of our favorite haircare brands Not Your Mother’s haircare, to learn how she worked her way up from the warehouse, how to make it in the beauty industry, and why the new NYM dry shampoo is literally the BEST EVER.
How did you land your current job?
I started at DeMert Brands in the warehouse, packing product in display boxes. As the company expanded and jobs opened I worked my way up through the marketing department.
Is your career what you expected it to be? What you saw yourself doing in college years?
It is not. I went to graduate school for journalism and media studies and I always wanted to work in radio. However, when the opportunity presented itself to move up, I took it and I don’t regret it at all. You can’t pass opportunities up if you want to wake up and feel good about yourself. Also, the beauty industry is a never boring, always changing industry. It was a happy alternative to direct media.
To prep for an interview someone should always...
Seriously think about their strengths and their weaknesses. It sounds so cliché, but from my experience, an interviewer wants to hear your weaknesses and how you strive to improve. It’s a far better quality than any strength. Also, overdress and iron your clothes.
What is your favorite part about your job?
Hearing about how much people love Not Your Mother’s haircare products before they know where I work.
Any words of advice for women who want to work in marketing/the beauty industry?
Ask questions. I got where I am by being curious and taking initiative when I was bored. Did it mean more work for myself? Sometimes. But it also meant I was always learning something new and expanding my mind. Don’t worry if it annoys other people. They don’t control your future and your superiors will always notice.
So, we have to ask - what's the BEST NYM product of all time?
Our new Clean Freak Unscented Refreshing Dry Shampoo. It’s the best dry shampoo… and I’ve tried every dry shampoo out there.
